Dollar General Corp. (DG), Dollar Tree, Inc. (DLTR) Slump After Earnings

Dollar Tree stock was down $6.34 to $88.59 as the market opened Thursday. The Board also declared its regular quarterly cash dividend of $0.25 per share on the company's common stock. Analyst's mean target price for Mylan N.V. (NASDAQ:MYL) is $58.31 while analysts mean recommendation is 2.10. Carroll Financial Associates Inc. now owns 3,679 shares of the company's stock valued at $346,000 after buying an additional 16 shares in the last quarter. He said, "The reality is the retail environment isn't easy". The Next Quarter growth is expected to be 55.1%. The prior year's second quarter included $60.0 million of markdown expense related to product assortment rationalization and planned liquidations at Family Dollar. Analysts had been expecting the retailer to report a same-store sales lift 2.4 percent, according to Thomson Reuters. Growth in sales, however, did not translate into increase in gross margins. During a May earnings call, Dollar General CEO Todd Vasos said consumers are "probably feeling a little more confident and spending a little bit more". The 1.2% same store sales increase was a little higher than the same store sales increase Dollar General (NYSE:DG) has seen (up 0.7% yoy), but a little lower than Wal-Mart's (NYSE:WMT) same store sales increase of 1.6% yoy.
