Facebook Launches Teens-Only App Lifestage

Users need to select their school name after signing up and the app shows other people's profile to them only when at least 20 other students from the same school register on it, reminiscent of the way Facebook was originally launched in the United States - school by school and University by University.

The new Lifestage service isn't just built for teens - it was actually built by one.

Facebook just announced a unusual new app called Lifestage, and it was built for teens by a 19-year-old.

The catch here is that not everyone will be able to use Lifestage. quotes Sayman as saying, "I went back and looked at Facebook from 2004".

Facebook just launched a new app called "Lifestage" and it's exclusive for teenagers - for now at least. Next, he developed 4Snaps, a photo charades app and finally got an invitation from Mark Zuckerberg to visit Facebook. Also the app is for users 21 and under. It was similar to how high school-aged users and people who weren't in college managed to join Facebook early on by simply signing up and telling the site what it needed. There's no real verification system (most high schoolers don't have an email address specific to their school) but Facebook says that it will be easy to users who seem like they're misrepresenting themselves and boot them off the app.

Despite these seemingly obvious intentions, however, TechCrunch's Constine that the app isn't meant to succeed on its own, but to teach Facebook more about how to integrate video into people's Facebook profiles.
