Sunday on NBC's "Meet the Press", while discussing the immigration policy of Republican presidential nominee Donald Trump, Republican National Committee chairman Reince Priebus said' a pathway to citizenship for illegal immigrants was "off the table". "He hasn't mentioned that since last November", she said.

Trump attempted to clarify his views on how to overhaul the USA immigration system after stating before that he was softening on his plan to deport all 11 million illegal immigrants.

Pence, repeatedly asked whether a Trump administration would still deploy a "deportation force", demurred but said Trump was only describing "a mechanism, not a policy" with the use of that term.

Speaking on the Iowa State Fairgrounds with hay bales stacked behind him, Mr Trump sought to clarify his views on how to overhaul the U.S. immigration system after saying earlier in the week that he was softening on his plan to deport all 11 million illegal immigrants.

The question has taken on increased relevance in recent days, as Trump has appeared to soften the hard-line position he adopted during the Republican primary campaign as he looks to boost his appeal among moderate voters in the general election.

Trump is looking more closely at the question of what to do about millions of illegal immigrants living in the country.
