Google's Waze to expand Uber-like ride-sharing service in San Francisco

Drummond said he resigned from Uber's board due to "overlap between the two companies", according to The Journal.

Nevertheless, Drummond's resignation from Uber's board appears to be on good terms.

His departure reveals how big of a player Uber is in the Silicon Valley.

In a somewhat complicated relationship between the two companies, Drummond was appointed to Uber's board after Alphabet's investment arm, Google Ventures, led a $360 million round in Uber in August 2013.

Uber's board is now left with seven board members that includes media magnate Arianna Huffington, investor Bill Gurley, and Yasir Al Rumayyan, who is managing director of the Saudi sovereign-wealth fund. The company has no plans to fill the seat occupied by Mr. Drummond.

Uber now has 7 board members. On the other hand, Alphabet had planned to test its self driving cars under his own ride hailing service.

Milwaukee protests: What happened where
The businesses that burned included a BMO Harris branch, a BP gas station, an O'Reilly Auto Parts store and a beauty supply store. Smith's mother, Haynes, said he had a licence to carry a weapon because he had previously been shot at and robbed several times.

Google-owned Waze plans to expand testing of its Waze Carpool service to all of San Francisco this fall, .

Former Alphabet employees also founded Ottomotto and joined Uber to launch driverless tech before the end of the decade.

Eventually, it is suspected that the app will use Google's self-driving cars.

The two companies compete in package and food delivery as well, including the UberRush courier service and Google Express same-day delivery from stores.

Sure enough, Google started throwing a lot of weight behind Android at that point, and they - along with the countless OEM partners who have made Android devices over the years - got into a war that the late, great Steve Jobs described as "thermonuclear".

San Francisco is the second location for Waze's program, after Israel, which now offers the ride sharing service around the clock in much of the country. And unlike Uber, this is more of a matchmaking service, which brings together riders with drivers headed in the same direction. According to The Information , Drummond had been barred from attending Uber's board meetings-a privilege typically granted to shareholders-"for the better part of a year", in order to keep Drummond from accessing sensitive company information.
