Apple debuts three custom chips, audio goes wireless

While the iPhone 7 and 7 Plus will be priced between Rs 60,000 (for iPhone 7) and Rs 75,000 (for iPhone 7 Plus) per unit, Apple is expected to bring down the price points of the iPhone 6s and iPhone 6 series, respectively, to ensure that those looking for an affordable model are addressed, informed sources have said. The company will ship the iPhone 7 with a pair of wired earphones that plug into the iPhone's proprietary lightning port, and an adapter that works with wired headphones.

But Apple is trying to push consumers to cut the cord with their headphones and make the leap into what it envisions as a "wireless future". So be careful with them - at $159, they're not cheap.

"While the camera improvements for the iPhone 7 Plus are nice, they are incremental for most and the lack of headphone jacks could offset that for others", he said. According to The Verge, "The new home button, which uses a "taptic engine" to give you physical feedback when you press it - it's pressure sensitive too, so it can tell if you really mean to press it or just tap it".

But Mike Binger, senior portfolio manager at Gradient Investments LLC in Minneapolis, said the new phone encouraged him that Apple was in good shape for a new sales cycle. This only forces everyone to carry the Lightning adapater.

For iPhone 7, Apple introduced two new colors, black and jet back, and eliminated its space gray option.

Historically, the Monday after each new iPhone launch begins with a press release from Apple where the company boasts about how many new devices it sold over the weekend.

Apple typically refreshes the iPhone every year, but goes in for a big makeover once in two years.

Apple shares, which closed up 0.6 percent on Wednesday when the new phones were launched, were down more than 2 percent at $106.04 in morning trading on Thursday.

Headphones that use the Lightning Port arguably have better audio quality than those that use a normal headphone jack. In the smartphone market that India has become, you can buy smartphones for the whole family for that amount without compromising much on the specs and design!
