Dad charged with killing 4 kids, torturing wife

The father called 911 around 1 a.m. ET, saying he had just killed his family at their suburban home about 10 miles southwest of downtown Detroit, said Lt. Michael Krause of Dearborn Heights Police.

A man killed his children, stepchildren and shot and stabbed his wife in Dearborn Heights early this morning, police said.

When the officers arrived at the house, Gregory Green was sitting on the front porch, calmly waiting.

The woman, whose age wasn't immediately available, is in critical condition, Krause said. She is expected to recover from her injuries.

An investigation is ongoing, but Dearborn Heights police chief Lee Gavin said it appears to be related to "some type of family altercation, dispute".

Green, 49, a muscular man in shackles and an orange jail uniform, walked slowly by clicking cameras to the defense table in the courtroom of Dearborn Heights 20th District Judge David D. Turfe. He will be arraigned on criminal charges by Thursday. Police say the man was the father of some of the children and a stepfather to others. All four children were dead, and his wife was suffering from gunshot wounds.

He's now accused of killing his two daughters, 4-year-old Kaleigh Green and 5-year-old Koi Green, and his stepchildren, 17-year-old Kara Allen and 19-year-old Chadney Allen. They found his 39-year-old wife in the basement of the home, bound with duct tape and zip ties.

After Green pleaded no contest to second-degree murder, he spent 16 generally uneventful years in prison - only once, in 2002, did he present any disciplinary issues when he fought another inmate. Green was released on parole in 2008, he said.

He was rejected earlier because he "had not shown remorse for his crime, had not gained adequate insight and had a lack of empathy", Corrections Department spokesman Chris Gautz said.

According to The Detroit News, Green completed cognitive programming while incarcerated.

Petri said the killings might have stemmed from a domestic violence incident, but he declined to elaborate. The couple were due for a hearing in October.

"It's devastating for the community", Paletko says. The dead children, whom he did not identify, were aged 4, 6, 17 and 19. They were then placed back into bed, according to police. "I think this sheds light on the fact that we need to start with trusting and believing victims".
