Samsung initiates Galaxy Note7 exchange programme

Samsung Electronics Australia advised all customers who use a Galaxy Note 7 Smartphone to power down their device return it to its place of purchase. Though Samsung's current method of recall should be sufficient to get all defective Galaxy Note 7 models off the market, pundits have noted that many third-party retailers may still sell the device in the current climate.

Samsung has confirmed they have spoken with these airlines about the Note 7 recall.

The high-end gadget was launched just weeks ago, but users have complained that a battery fault has caused some phones to explode or catch fire while plugged in.

The American regulatory agency is understandably concerned about recent reports of at least 35 Note 7 devices catching fire without warning after the battery apparently overheated while charging. He was sleeping at the time but only burned his finger during the incident.

Florida's Nathan Dornacher told WTVT that his Note 7 was sitting on the console of his Jeep Grand Cherokee before it exploded and took the vehicle with it.

Samsung's recall - the first for one of the South Korean electronics giant's top of the range phones - came a week before arch-rival Apple unveiled its iPhone 7 on Wednesday.
