UN Security Council slams DPRK's nuke test

The blast triggered a 5.3. magnitude earth quake.

It was the country's fifth atomic test and second in eight months.

The United Nations has strongly condemned North Korea's fifth and most powerful nuclear test to date, agreeing immediately to draw up significant new sanctions.

Kim could not be more mistaken.

Lavrov told reporters while meeting Kerry in Geneva to discuss Syria peace efforts that a message must be sent "very strongly" on implementing United Nations resolutions on North Korea. "Nor should they expect China to solve this problem for the United States".

The US and France urged the Council members to push ahead with new sanctions against North Korea, saying its repeated tests show "complete disregard" for global law. The country has launched more than 20 missiles since the March U.N. resolution.

"Clinton promised to work to end North Korea's nuclear programme as secretary of state, yet the programme has only grown in strength and sophistication", Miller added in his statement.

The Democratic presidential candidate promised to impose tougher sanctions on the country.

There were no other details given, like whether she needed medical attention. "We put out the information", she said at the time. Trump supporters have been tweeting unsubstantiated theories regarding Clinton's health under the hashtag #HillarysHealth .

What measures are included in a new resolution will largely depend on China, the North's major ally and neighbour which fears any instability on the Korean peninsula.

"Now watching all these long, longstanding crises in Colombia and Cyprus are now coming closer to a resolution, I feel much more sorry and regretful that something which is relating to my own home country is not happening - even getting more and more hard situation", Ban said. This fact has raised serious doubt about the effectiveness of the measures.

The European Union also denounce the test saying that it was a "grave threat to the peace and security".

Since China has criticized the planned deployment of a new US missile defense system to South Korea, it should make serious efforts to rein in the runaway North Korean regime as that is the reason the system will be put in place.

But China hesitates, fearing that either political humiliation or increased economic hardship would lead to the collapse of the North Korean regime. Cutting off the power supplies and turning off the lights in North Korea seems to be the only way to stop North Korea.

Another big Not in the standoff with North Korea how convoluted is the situation getting now?

Washington should now consider a new approach in hopes of breaking the current impasse.

Pyongyang test-fired three missiles on Monday as world powers gathered for a G20 meeting in China, with Kim Jong-Un hailing the tests as "perfect", and US President Barack Obama warning it would only up the pressure.
