President [Barack] Obama and all Americans are heartened to know we can continue to count on our allies and alliances, and especially on the United Kingdom, to join us in meeting these challenges and defending the principled global order", the defense secretary said.

"At the same time, we're working with the Syrian Democratic Forces in a plan to envelop and collapse ISIL's control of Raqqah", Carter said.

Some NATO members, particularly the Baltic states that border Russian Federation, have voiced concern about Moscow's aggressive moves in the Ukraine as a sign of Russia's larger territorial ambitions.
