Value of Oprah's stake in Weight Watchers down $116 million

As of the end of fiscal 2015, the company had approximately 1 million active meeting subscribers at 32,000 Weight Watchers meetings around the world.

TVC News reports that Oprah, who owns ten per cent of Weight Watchers, saw $117 million knocked off her own personal fortune by the falling share price. Neither Chambers nor the firm elaborated on the reason for the sudden corporate exit. In the announcement about Chambers' departure, Weight Watchers quoted incoming interim co-CEO Hotchkin as saying: "We remain confident we will deliver revenue and earnings growth in 2016, and that [the third quarter] will be our fourth consecutive quarter of year-over-year member recruitment growth". The stock has since retreated. The company said it was a "joint decision" between Chambers and the board of directors.

The company's stock (WTW) jumped 105% last October to $13.92 on the day Winfrey announced she would be taking a 10% stake in Weight Watchers. That prompted Chambers to say Weight Watchers was making progress on its turnaround plan.

Saints' Winless Preseason Foreshadows Regular Season Failure
As for the offense, if it's what we are used to seeing over the last 10 years, then you know Brees will lead them down the field. The Colts originally opened as 6 point favorites against a Lions team that looks far less scary without Calvin Johnson around.

The Weight Watchers CEO is calling it quits. She subsequently took a seat on its board and became Weight Watchers' TV spokesperson - effectively, its public face. That doesn't include the paper gains from 3.5 million additional shares she could buy by exercising options. The company's stock more than doubled the day the purchase was announced, and by November, Winfrey's stake was worth almost $180 million. The three members of the Office of the CEO are Nicholas Hotchkin, Chief Financial Officer, Thilo Semmelbauer, Director, and Christopher Sobecki, Director.

Last month, Morningstar said in a research note: "It will take more time and other technology, product development, and potential rebranding investments to make Weight Watchers' platform stand out from emergent rivals".

In a statement, Chambers said he was proud of "the team's accomplishments in returning the company to growth" and of striking a partnership with Winfrey.
