FBI says it's evaluating abuse allegations against Pitt

The actor has not yet responded to the abuse allegation, though sources told ABC News that his number one priority remains the welfare of the children.

"We have no criminal investigation that we are actively pursuing", said Sgt. Barry Montgomery.

"The DCFS investigation is absolutely ongoing", the source says. "It's unfortunate that involved are continuing to present him in the worst possible light".

Pitt is also under investigation by the Los Angeles county department of children and family services as a result of the alleged incident.

As murky rumors continue to swirl around the sudden split of Hollywood A-listers Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie, the Federal Bureau of Investigation has confirmed that it is gathering information surrounding an alleged incident involving Pitt and his children aboard a private plane September 14 - the day before the couple officially separated.

When reached for comment, a spokesperson for the L.A.P.D. told Vanity Fair that, "The L.A.P.D.is not handling any report or allegation into child abuse for Mr. Brad Pitt".

The Los Angeles County Department of Children and Family Services said it could not confirm or deny whether it was investigating Pitt. Because there are so many different versions of what happened, TMZ reported that it's highly unlikely Pitt will be prosecuted.

Sources claim Pitt, Jolie and their children were on board a flight last Wednesday when Pitt "got wasted", "went wild", and started screaming and "getting physical" with the children, TMZ reports.

"He was appealing to her to do this quietly - not to save the marriage but to consider the well-being of the children - and it was ignored", a source said. The outlet reported that the private plane incident happened September 14, just a few days before Jolie filed divorce documents citing irreconcilable differences as the cause of their breakup.

"We have no report in our record for any filings for Brad Pitt, we are not having any investigations regarding Brad Pitt", police spokesman Lorenzo Quezada told AFP. Even during what looks to be a contentious divorce, "he'll always do whatever is best for his kids", says the source.

"The claims are greatly exaggerated or fabricated", the insider said.
