Redskins, Bengals battle to 27-27 tie in London

Josh Norman was seeing red on Sunday afternoon after witnessing a lot of yellow on the football field during the Redskins game against the Bengals in London.

Hopkins' opposite number will also be reflecting on a costly miss as Bengals kicker Mike Nugent missed a routine point-after-touchdown attempt in the third quarter, and like Hopkins he also missed a field goal attempt in regulation.

During the post-game press conference, Redskins coach Jay Gruden went full Donovan McNabb and stated he didn't realize teams could tie until last week.

The Redskins started the game by jumping out to a 7-0 on a 15-play opening drive touchdown that was capped by Robert Kelley's first National Football League rushing touchdown.

That set up a wild overtime period. Dustin Hopkins had the chance to win the game for Washington with a 34 yard field goal. A senseless hit on a fair catch deep inside Washington territory and a back-breaking third down holding penalty in overtime stood out as poor defensive plays, but it was the Bengals inability to hang on to the ball nearly cost them most of all.

Washington QB Kirk Cousins torched the Bengals for 458 yards passing on the day, the highest passing yardage total allowed by the Bengals since Drew Brees hung 510 on them on November 19, 2006, his first year as a Saint.

Yet the Redskins got the ball back at midfield after forcing an Andy Dalton fumble. Cousins couldn't connect downfield and tossed his final desperate pass tamely into the sideline to preserve the draw.

The win left the Redskins' record to 4-3-1.

The previous time came last Sunday, when the Arizona Cardinals and Seattle Seahawks ended up with a 6-6 score after overtime. If the Bengals trust him enough to go out there and try a 50+ yard field goal, he needs to start making them, at least occasionally.

Dalton completed 27 of 42 for 284 yards and a touchdown to Tyler Eifert, who saw his first significant game action following offseason back surgery. He caught nine balls on 12 targets for 102 yards, many of them gained after the catch on short dump-offs, shovel passes or because of broken tackles.

Edelman, Patriots wary of Steelers' big-play Brown
Just because the Steelers are over Blount's exit doesn't mean the city is, particularly one that doesn't take rejection well. Since returning from a three-game suspension, Bell is averaging a league-leading 146.7 yards from scrimmage per game.

The first one came in the fourth quarter with the Bengals threatening to add to a three-point lead with the ball at the Washington 20.

Cincinnati now stands at 3-4-1 on the season and will travel to the New York Giants in two weeks after their upcoming bye week.

Both teams had their chances down the stretch.

On the ground, Redskins rookie RB Robert Kelley, who filled in for injured starter Matt Jones, bruised his way to 87 yards on 21 carries (4.1 average) and an opening-drive touchdown.

KICKING WOES: It wasn't only Hopkins ruing his errors.

Nugent's kick was good this time, and Washington found themselves 20-10 down. Taking away a home game from the city of Cincinnati causing them to take a hit to their economy, along with causing many people to be without a job for the day, a job that already only sees 8-oppurtinites a year.

With 2.13 minutes remaining he put his second effort wide left but the game wasn't quite over.

"We missed a PAT, we missed a field goal, and those things eventually came back to hurt us", Lewis said.

Norman was flagged five times, four of them for illegal hands to the face. Green five of his receptions for 76 yards against Norman head-to-head, but Norman did record three passes defensed.

Drive summary: The Bengals took the second-half kickoff and drove for a score.
