DeVos vote expected in Senate committee today

Patty Murray, the highest-ranking Democrat on the Senate Education Committee, asked Betsy DeVos, the MI billionaire nominated by President Trump to be USA education secretary.

The event was organized in response to Schumer's recent statements opposing Betsy DeVos' possible appointment as secretary of education.

Sen. Al Franken says he and other Democrats will not vote to approve Betsy DeVos' nomination as Secretary of Education.

The central issue was DeVos' support of school choice - a voucher program that gives poor children the opportunity to attend better schools.

"Your ethics review process has revealed dozens of financial interests that you and your family hold through a complicated network of investment entities, assets, and trusts", says a January 27 letter to DeVos spearheaded by Sen.

The Senate Education Committee is set to vote on advancing DeVos' nomination on Tuesday. Senate Democrats, including former Democrat vice presidential nominee Tim Kaine, Vermont Sen. She said it wasn't.

Here is one of the videos from Ms. DeVos' hearing before the Senate HELP Committee. The request was denied by Chairman Alexander.

Raees, Kaabil continue to take box office by storm
In another tweet, Taran Adarsh said that Raees will be Shah Rukh Khan's seventh film to cross the Rs 100 crore-mark. A collection of Rs 9.77 crore on Friday came close Wednesday's - the opening day's collections at Rs 10.53 crore.

But Friedman argued that public education can not be called public if it is "influenced by profit-making corporations or religiously-affiliated organizations ... and that is very much (DeVos's) agenda".

Pointing to stumbles by DeVos at the committee's confirmation hearing for DeVost two weeks ago, Hassan said "her lack of knowledge and understanding of America's public school system during the hearings was astonishing".

"That scares me as an educator", Kirby High School social studies teacher Will Kelley said. "We need to listen to our teachers".

"It makes me glad to be in California and to know we can protect kids and that we have the people to do it", Carrera said. Supporters applaud DeVos as a champion of school choice. More than half are from Long Island.

If DeVos is confirmed tomorrow, as she is expected to be, public school educators will be mobilizing in unprecedented ways in an effort to make a privatization agenda more hard than she might hope for. But the union recognizes DeVos's "track record of undermining traditional education structures", he added.

The groups, which include the NAACP and the National Education Association, said the billionaire's deference to state flexibility and lack of education experience make her the wrong choice for the future of American education. Public and private funds poured into the charter initiatives, but there was virtually no transparency on how that money was spent.

His claim rests largely on a study that purports to show Detroit's charter schools have failed students in the city. "She does. That means it will be up to the state of North Dakota and local school districts to decide how to address school choice".
