Thousands expected at Trump-inspired women's rights march

Herndon-De La Rosa founded New Wave Feminists in hopes of making room in the feminist movement for women who are pro-life - yet otherwise feel maligned from pro-choice mainstream feminism.

WOMEN across Scotland are getting ready to mark the inauguration of Donald J Trump as President of the US with a string of protests, marches and community action.

"I'm concerned about how people with disabilities are being treated, because they don't have the same rights that everyone else does", Rider-Osborne said.

For Marina Hammergren of Berkeley, this is the first time she has ever been part of any kind of protest march.

Anti President-elect Trump groups have been mobilizing for days in preparation for inauguration day, but a group of pro-choice feminist claiming to be inclusive banned pro-lifers from their march.

In Washington, DC, alone, with a march route of just over a mile and the average adult taking about 2,000 steps per mile, the marchers together will take at least 400 million steps. Hundreds of other communities are holding simultaneous events, including some in Canada.

"I see people from different states having different reasons for coming here, but the one thing we have in common is we will not be having our voice be stifled anymore", said Al-Hassan.

"We are very proud that so many people will be representing our corner of the country at this historic event", said Mathews County Democratic Committee co-chair Bud Ward.

"It's really so much more", said Ann Scholhamer, who hosted the first meeting of the group in her North Side home.

The national rally was sparked the day after Mr. Trump's surprise victory over Democrat Hillary Clinton in the November 6 election.

Billed as the "largest mass mobilization" faced by any incoming administration in US history, organizers such as Linda Sarsour of the Women's March on Washington, hope it will send a "strong message" to Trump.

A group of Flagstaff women took a break from their busy afternoons on Tuesday to gather in Cathy Small's living room.

There is an expectation that the march will be massive, but peaceful.

Sociology Professor Toi Carter, who said she teaches at both Dillard and Tulane worked with others to make the trip possible for not just the students at Dillard but also from LSU, UNO and Louisiana Tech. We keep our eyes open.

Only two of the organizers, including herself, have been involved in a direct-action campaign before, she said. When the Women's March was announced in November, we affirmed its core statement: "Women's rights are human rights". "We work peacefully while recognizing there is no true peace without justice and equity for all".

Bland told The Atlantic that including Planned Parenthood "was a no-brainer for us" due to their support of the Affordable Care Act. The statement also said that including an "anti-choice" organization was an "error".
