World Junior Hockey Championship tonight between Canada and the US

After a scoreless 20-minute overtime period in which the USA was outshot 17-7, Denver Pioneers sophomore Troy Terry scored the lone goal for either side in a five-round shootout. United States of America goaltender Tyler Parsons was tremendous in the shootout period, denying all five Canadian attempts. They beat Canada 3-1 on Saturday in pool play.

Thankfully for the tournament organizers, Team Canada actually made it to the gold-medal game to fill up the Bell Centre and Montreal showed yet again it is an "event" city - whether it's a gold-medal junior game or an Impact MLS playoff game at the Big O.

The only crime was in that the night, a rollercoaster of wild and emotional swings, was decided by a shootout.

Bellows was sent off for kneeing Joseph 55 seconds into the third frame and Roy walked in on the left side and wired a high shot past Parsons at 1:52. Only the powerhouse Soviet teams of the earliest years of the tournament won more consecutive golds from 1974 to 1980 in the first seven years of the championship (and followed up that stellar record with back to backs in '83 and '84).

The U.S. celebrates a come-from-behind, 5-4 shootout victory over Canada.

Anthony Cirelli brought Canada level once again on 18 minutes when his thumping shot flew into the net.

Canada's first really good chance found the back of the net as Thomas Chabot completed a ideal run of at least a point in every game at this year's tournament, firing home a setup from Mathieu Joseph and Matthew Barzal at 4:38. Instead, captain Dylan Strome led the procession for silver medals, with the Star Spangled Banner following in short order.

As for the world junior tournament, I wouldn't expect to see it come back to Montreal for a long time - if ever.

They had every chance imaginable to win. Jordan Greenway would throw a cross-ice pass to Charlie McAvoy who had a wide open cage to deposit the puck in.

Canada, sporting a 2-goal lead in the 3rd period of a gold medal game seems like an impossible task to overcome, yet that is just what Team USA did, and they answered quickly.

Suddenly, this team felt different than squads from years past. As a whole, Canada's forwards made life miserable for Swedish goalie Felix Sandstrom, which is what they needed to do considering he was one of the top netminders in the tournament. Like dropping a quarter into a soda machine from 18 feet away, Nicolas Roy deposited an absolutely flawless strike over Parsons' right shoulder to give Canada a 3-2 edge. You nearly needed a defibrillator to get through this one - the tension was palpable throughout the sold-out Bell Centre.

Troy Terry showing shades of T.J Oshie by going 3/3 in the shootout to advance team USA. The teams traded chances throughout the game, and especially in the third period and overtime.

Moments later, the Canadians roared up the ice and defenceman Thomas Chabot, who had jumped up into the play, finished of a pretty passing play involving Mathieu Joseph and Matthew Barzal. In this case it was Hart, who emerged in camp as the hot hand and started the tournament only to falter and be replaced by Connor Ingram, who, in the grand scheme of things, fared no better.

"They gave everything", Canadian head coach Dominique Ducharme said of his players while speaking with TSN.

And she said, "that would be the ideal situation" if a replacement was passed at the same time that Obamacare was repealed.
