Berkeley Protests of Breitbart's Milo Yiannopoulos Caused $100000 in Damage

Friday's briefing comes two days after a speech Yiannopoulos was set to deliver at the University of California, Berkeley was canceled due to violent protests that broke out before the event. In an interview Friday, Peter Sittler, a sophomore at Berkeley and vice president of the organization that sponsored Yiannopoulos's visit, the Berkeley College Republicans, told me the school's administration, from Chancellor Nicholas Dirks on down, "worked tirelessly to plan [the event] and make sure it went through".

Berkeley Mayor Jesse Arreguin also denounced the rioting, suggesting that shutting down Yiannopoulos was not constructive in thwarting far-right movements in the US.

Speaking to Fox News via phone call, Yiannopoulos said: "Students who come to my talks don't necessarily agree with me but want to see the other side". A lighting fixture set up for the event was lit on fire, which then spread to a nearby tree. She says student protesters made that request of the anti-fascist group, but it didn't happen.

Hundreds of faculty, staff and students signed a letter decrying the university's decision to allow a controversial speaker on the University of New Mexico campus.

Protesters later marched near the campus, smashing windows and vehicle windshields while clashing with police. Although, in a live Facebook video, he mentioned that he was safe and planned on discussing cultural appropriation.

The local lawyers present in the state House have started the preparation to combat Trump in court, alleging the abuse of power and the misuse of Presidential jurisdictions regarding policies on immigration and climate change. They don't deserve President Trump's Twitter threat about UC Berkeley's federal funding.

The Donald Trump Phone Call That Sent Australian Media Into Overdrive
Trump had agreed to honour the deal. "I received the assurance that I did [on the resettlement deal] from the president himself". Turnbull insisted today that relations between the diplomatic partners were strong despite reports that Trump had berated him.

CNN reported that numerous protesters voiced opposition to US President Donald Trump.

But some protesters said the Yiannopoulos event wasn't a matter of free speech, because he espouses hate speech. Where they get their funding, he didn't say.

Late last month, outside a scheduled speech by Yiannopoulos at the University of Washington in Seattle, an anti-racist protester was shot by a Yiannopoulos fan who had tried to provoke the protesters throughout the evening, according to Hatewatch. In his speech at UNM, he said Muslims shouldn't be allowed to enter the country and that the audience should report undocumented immigrants to U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement.

This recent burst of violence is disappointing when one considers that Berkeley is the birthplace of modern student protest.

Assembly Speaker Anthony Rendon, a Democrat from the Los Angeles suburb of Paramount, said that they are on the hold as they expect another "angry tweet" regarding the Berkeley situation. If it was free-speech merely, expressing ideas that are even abhorrent to the masses of people there, that's all right.

"You think this is a strategy by Yiannopoulos or right-wingers, they put this on in effort to show there's no free speech on a college campus like UC-Berkeley?"
