No irregularity in serving of arrest warrant vs. Sen. De Lima-PNP

The demonstration comes a day after Duterte's most high-profile critic, Senator Leila de Lima, was arrested on drug-related charges.

De Lima and President Duterte have been engaged in a public war of words since he came into office last June, particularly over his drug war that has seen more than 7,000 supposed drug traffickers killed in extrajudicial vigilante-style killings.

Philippine Senator Leila de Lima reacts after a Regional Trial Court (RTC) ordered her arrest, at the Senate headquarters in Pasay City, Metro Manila, Philippines, February 23.

"The pile of bodies in the Duterte government's war on drugs; arrests and killings of political activists; renewed push for death penalty, and militarisation of communities affecting women and children is nothing but a U-turn to full-blown fascism", she said. A court order allowed the former president to post bail eight months later, but the authorities again arrested her in October 2012, for a separate charge of plunder.

The allegations she was in cahoots with drugs gangs surfaced when she led a Senate investigation, which probed alleged summary executions during Duterte's bloody drugs war and a pattern of similar killings over the 22 years in which he was mayor of Davao City.

While CIDG members were taking De Lima's mugshot and fingerprints during the booking procedure, Bag-ao said De Lima kept shaking her head.

Dousing fears over the senator's safety, MalacaƱang also said that De Lima can "put herself at rest".

Stewart and Jackman have always worked well together; their odd father/son bickering is notable and used here with such sad irony. Anyone who's seen the trailers could easily guess that Logan is the best solo Wolverine movie, but it's more than that.

For human rights group Karapatan, De Lima is not the first political prisoner under Duterte.

Vice President Leni Robredo on Friday afternoon expressed her support to Senator Leila de Lima who is now detained at the PNP Custodial Center at Camp Crame.

So much has been said about the similarities between President Rodrigo Duterte and US President Donald Trump, ranging from the superficial like their fiery rhetoric and colorful language down to the fact that they were seen as anti-establishment type of leaders and appealed to voters who were getting sick and exhausted of "politics as usual".

They also testified against De Lima a year ago before the House justice committee's inquiry on the illegal drugs trade.

Mr. Duterte in 2016 was catapulted to presidency riding on a campaign against illegal drugs. Duterte's allies believe the Aquino administration resorted to political persecution.

The Catholic Bishops Conference of the Philippines also released a statement on Friday (apart from that of its president, Archbishop Socrates B. Villegas) which read in part: "We beg the Lord to pour forth upon us the passion NOT for vengeance but for justice".

Alvarez said the drug trade case filed by the Department of Justice relied on the House of Representatives inquiry in aid of legislation on the New Bilibid Prison drug trade where De Lima allegedly raised campaign funds. De Lima continuously criticized how the administration handled the crackdown of drug trafficking in the country.
