4 things to know about Equal Pay Day

Equal Pay Day is being held Tuesday to highlight wage discrimination against women.

Elected leaders weighed in on the disparity found between men's and women's salaries as people marked Equal Pay Day Tuesday.

"The bill entails that companies and institutions of a certain size, 25 or more employees, undertake a certification of their equal-pay programmes", Thorsteinn Viglundsson, the minister of social affairs and equality, told news agency AFP.

Around 9,000 employers across the United Kingdom will be required to publish the data under a scheme created to narrow the gap between what men and women are paid in the United Kingdom, now 18.1 per cent.

Equal pay day for women of color comes much later in the year, with the most recent numbers for black women at 64-cents on the dollar and Hispanic women being 54-cents on the dollar.
