Netflix misses subscriber growth targets, but expects a big Q2

In the first quarter the streaming service passed $2.5 billion in revenues and added another 5 million members.

Netflix made the prediction Monday, April 17, amid the release of its Q1 earnings for 2017.

Sanderson recently reiterated a "buy" rating on Netflix stock and gave it a price target of $175. Worldwide additions rose by 3.53 million, down from 5.12 million in the fourth quarter of last year and down from 4.51 million in the year-ago quarter. But he also noted that Netflix isn't as entrenched in global markets as these companies.

Netflix also provided guidance for the second quarter.

Netflix may know something the rest of the world doesn't in terms of its second quarter, but if 100 million subscribers is in the cards for this weekend, it certainly looks like the SVOD will move ahead of its projections.

The streaming-video giant reported first-quarter user gains that fell short of estimates because there wasn't a "House of Cards"-style hit to draw new viewers and retain others".

Scott Walker scraps Easter egg hunt amid search for gun thief
Kids can meet the Easter Bunny, and may even get a special treat - while grownups sample some of the winery's wines, as well. Two nearby children noticed Isabella's somber mood and provided her with an extra egg each, said her mother, Amanda Moon.

According to the report from Netflix, the company is investing heavily in paying for and creating original content with high production value, instead of simply licensing content.

Hastings argued that the market is big enough to accommodate everyone, noting that Amazon offers "great programming" and that HBO continues to grow.

In North America, key releases this past quarter included A Series of Unfortunate Events, a dark comedy, Santa Clarita Diet, a "zom-com" starring Drew Barrymore, and Ultimate Beastmaster, Netflix's first competition show that pits athletes from around the globe against a fearsome 600-foot obstacle course.

"We've said previously subsequent seasons of show that are very popular tend to have more impact on the business than introducing brand new IP [intellectual property]", explained Netflix Chief Content Officer Ted Sarandos during the webcast. We don't really care which service is being watched, we simply watch a service because it is offering the content we want to view.

In the United States, revenues and profits both grew, hitting $1.5 billion and $606 million respectively. Because of this change in timing, Netflix guided for strong subscriber adds in the second quarter, including 850,000 domestic adds and 2.8 million global adds, both of which were higher than Graham's previous estimate.
