UK Labour leader comes out fighting ahead of election

Labour leader Jeremy Corbyn said about May, "She says it's about leadership, yet is refusing to defend her record in television debates".

The polls - admittedly not always a reliable indicator - give the Tories a 24 point lead and unless there is some sort of political quake, it is hard to see how Labour can pull off a most unlikely victory. The current Parliament will dissolve on June 3.

She said: 'I don't think that this election is about changing the government'.

Britain will also not have a say in the future location of London-based European Union agencies, he added, contradicting one United Kingdom official who said this week that the issue would be part of the negotiations.

Corbyn said in the vote the debate should be about the battle between "the Conservatives, the party of privilege and the richest, versus the Labour party, the party that is standing up for working people", not on pulling Britain out of the EU.

His impassioned speech, the first formal one of the electoral campaign, highlighted the huge ideological divide at the heart of the surprise snap election due to take place on June 8.

The European Parliament's Brexit negotiator Guy Verhofstadt said the election was a chance for Britons to determine what kind of EU relationship they wanted.

Playoff Preview: Warriors (1) - Trail Blazers…
It's this momentum that has made Lillard more confident the Blazers can take on anyone, including the league-leading Warriors. Championship teams have that one key contributor that isn't one of the superstars that steps up each season.

He said that it's a fact that polls are putting labour behind in race and that's why Theresa May smells that she can extend her majority in the parliament from around 17 to almost 100 but "she's mistaken".

"This is yet more evidence of chaos from Jeremy Corbyn and Labour", he said.

Mr Corbyn said Labour was the party of "hope and opportunity" for everybody, before speaking about his plans to abolish zero-hours contracts and to introduce a £10 an hour living wage for everybody.

A "morally bankrupt" Conservative Party was intent on preserving the system while cutting public services and blaming migrants and the unemployed for the woes of the economy, he said.

Mr Verhofstadt's article is likely to ruffle feathers in Downing Street ahead of key talks next week between Ms May and Jean-Claude Juncker, president of the European Commission.

The leader's position hadn't been that clear earlier in the day. Her "third way" between nationalism and globalism, with its emphasis on making globalisation work for those who feel left behind, gives her more of an appeal to these voters than any Tory leader this century. "Of course, there are going to be several difficulties for the Conservatives in the election campaign including the impact on Scotland and the potential for a second referendum, and a focus in the campaign on what sort of post-EU Britain the Conservatives want".
