DUP head arrives for talks with UK leader May

Arlene Foster and Theresa May have worked together behind the scenes on things they agree on in the past and in some ways some areas of the Conservative party mirror aspects of the DUP.

"I think it's very self-interested, putting party before peace in Northern Ireland - party interest before peace and stability in Northern Ireland - and I do think it's that serious".

Earlier, Foster said the talks were going well: 'We hope soon to be able to bring this work to a successful conclusion'.

She has already held talks with the DUP this week about a deal to support her minority Conservative government.

An organiser for the Women's March said the event was "for self-defining women, kids, non-binary people and all who love and support us".

With British politics thrust into the deepest turmoil since last June's shock Brexit vote, European Union leaders were left wondering how divorce talks would open next week.

May's botched election gamble left her so diminished that supporters of closer ties with the European Union publicly demanded that she take a more consensual and business friendly approach to Brexit.

Defensemen help Penguins play fast in Stanley Cup Final
Facing elimination in game six, the Predators defenseman insisted his team will play better in Nashville . Rinne's backup, Juuse Saros , gave up three goals on 15 shots from the defending Stanley Cup champions.

May left Downing Street without responding to reporters' questions on whether an agreement had been reached with the DUP, which is needed to help the Conservatives command the majority they lost in last week's election.

His comments echo those of EU President Donald Tusk who said on Friday that there was "no time to lose" to avoid Britain crashing out without a deal on future relations.

According to sources, Tuesday's discussions are likely to focus on the government's legislative plans for the year ahead as well as the upcoming Brexit negotiations due to begin on June 19, and their particular implications for Northern Ireland's border with the Republic of Ireland and trade.

"I am concerned about the deal, I am wary about it, I am dubious about it, both for peace process reasons but also for other reasons as well", he said in an interview with BBC Radio 4's the World at One.

"The main concern is going to be that if there is a Conservative-DUP deal, then can the British government continue to play the role of an honest broker in the restoration of a Northern Ireland executive?" said Simon Usherwood, senior politics lecturer at Surrey University.

Following discussions in Brussels on Thursday, the offices of British Brexit Secretary David Davis and the European Commission's chief negotiator Michel Barnier released a joint statement to confirm the date.

"They take their role very seriously and that's fine but they also have to acknowledge that there is the consent principle which underlines everything in the Good Friday Agreement", she said. Without a so-called confidence and supply deal with the DUP, her party risks losing the vote next week on the Queen's Speech, which lays out the agenda for the government.
