President Trump to reverse parts of Obama's Cuba policy

They watched. almost two years ago, then-U.S. President Barack Obama pursued, and secured, a thaw in relations with its longtime nemesis Cuba and the Castro government.

On Thursday, he said that change is coming. According to the publication, it probably means that USA travelers will not even be able to stay at a hotel in Old Havana or make use of any tourism service in Cuba.

An event is planned for Friday in Miami, where Trump is expected to announce new restrictions on American travel to the island and on United States companies doing business with the Cuban government.

During last year's presidential campaign, Trump threatened to "terminate" deals that the Obama administration made with Cuba.

Senator Rubio and President Trump haven't laid out specifics, but some worry the administration will make it more hard to travel there.

Educational trips and so-called "people-to-people" group exchanges will be under greater scrutiny, with educational groups once again having to travel with a guide from a U.S. organization sponsoring the trip, a requirement the Obama policy had effectively eliminated. Under the Trump administration's future regulations, only educational groups will be able to facilitate these people-to-people interactions. That means that any US traveler now booked on a flight to Cuba in the next few weeks, or even months, could go ahead and make the trip.

There was some talk of removing the trade embargo during Obama's efforts to normalize relations, but the former president ultimately left the crippling blockade in place. The media stated that Trump will not re-establish the "dry feet-wet feet" policy former President Barack Obama called off on January 12. However, the policy changes appear to allow Marriott, Starwood's parent company, to continue operating the hotel. And Americans who visit Cuba will still be allowed to bring rum and cigars home with them.

Sanders 'Delighted' by Corbyn's Success in UK Election
Norwegian Foreign Minister Boerge Brende said the election outcome could mean a less radical split between Britain and the EU. But now that she's politically weaker, what'll happen with the Brexit deal? I'm very proud to lead this party.

Those on both sides of the issue say the Starwood decision was particularly vexing for the administration.

The U.S. severed diplomatic relations with Cuba in 1961 after Fidel Castro's revolution.

However, family travel is now authorized and will continue to be. According to island authorities, in 2016 the number of USA visitors increased by 74 percent compared to 2015. These visitors will be allowed to pay bank fees at the military-run bank and rent private properties such as those offered by Airbnb.

The restrictions on dealing with the military could significantly affect American travel, although the military has already begun to reorganize its ownership of some businesses and entities in anticipation of such changes. So Williams is working to contain the expected reversal of Obama's policies. An official said that the president was anxious that current policies were enriching the Cuban military.

Some business leaders have also tried to convince Trump not to roll back Obama's Cuba policy.

Diplomatic relations will remain, and so will commercial flights, but travel to Cuba will be more tightly monitored and business will face restrictions aimed at ensuring that Cuban military and intelligence organisations do not benefit.

"It could tiresome a boom in tourism by Americans to Cuba and hurt a burgeoning cottage industry of private enterprise on the socialist-ruled island", it says.
