Storm stoppage halts hot runs by Day, Matsuyama at PGA

MAKING THE CUT: For just the second time in six years, at least one club pro will make the cut.

"I'd quite like it to play wet".

So now his best chance is a Hail Mary on the weekend.

Kiwi golfer Ryan Fox has carded the low round of the US PGA Championship to date, recording a five-under 66 to put himself among the challengers. Among a group of players tied for fourth at five-under is Italian Francesco Molinari, who equalled Matsuyama's 64 in the afternoon group.

Kisner, a US PGA victor three months ago at Colonial, shared the 18-hole lead with Thorbjorn Olesen, the Dane who stood second as he teed off. He made a mess of the par-five 10th and in the end did well to salvage a bogey, slipping 11 strokes from the lead.

Making an exacting test look nearly easy, he posted an eight-under 134 halfway total, while compatriot Rickie Fowler was the best of the other early starters, five behind after a 70.

Spieth shot a two-over 73 on Friday to be thre-over for the tournament but 11 strokes behind the co-leaders when the second round was suspended due to darkness, with 25 players still on the course.

Kisner held the overnight lead with Denmark's Thorbjorn Olesen, who has had a rocky start to his second round, going birdie-par-bogey on his first three holes.

Gatland: Deciding Test will not define coaching career
The hosts will return to Eden Park - the scene of their opening victory - for this weekend's hugely anticipated showdown. Davies has been the Lion's best back during the series - and arguably the best player.

Having grown up a few hours from Charlotte, Kisner was a lot more at ease on Quail Hollow's fast, undulating and tricky greens than most of his competitors.

"I felt confident. I was hitting the driver nice starting out".

With Quail Hollow recently installing a new breed of Bermuda grass on all 18 greens, Day was satisfied with his round on lightning-quick putting surfaces.

I had a bit of shaky start with a bogey on 10th, a par-5 and that was a disappointment, as you don't want to let go of the par-5s and certainly not drop a shot there. So, I was again three-over.

I'm going to let Spieth answer this question, since he did so following his opening round: "I've got to make up ground". He failed to birdie the drivable par-4 14th or the par-5 15th, missing a birdie putt from just inside 10 feet. He hit arguably the worst tee shot ever to finish before the horn sounded. This was followed by an additional four pars before a birdie on the 15th brought him back to level par for the tournament.

After sinking a 22-foot par putt at the ninth, Matsuyama began his birdie charge with a 12-foot putt at the par-4 12th and six-footers at the par-3 13th and par-4 14th.

Five of Matsuyama's birdies, including three in a row on Nos.
