USA reports rising income, falling poverty in 2016

Specifically, median household income, after adjusting for inflation, rose 3.2 percent in 2016 to $59,039, while mean income increased at a bit of a faster clip - 3.6 percent - to $83,143. Black families saw their median income climb 5.7% in 2016 to $39,500, while Hispanic households had a 4.3% increase to $47,675.

The share of people without health insurance dropped to 8.8 percent from 9.1 percent in 2015, though 28.1 million people remained uninsured in 2016. Incomes in the Washington area, including parts of Maryland and northern Virginia, rose a more modest 2.7% from 2015.

Women earned 80% of male pay on average previous year, up almost a percentage point and the first statistically significant increase since 2007.

The federal government defined children and adults as poor if they lived in households with an income below $24,339 a year ago for a family of four.

Another sign of economic growth is that poverty declined countywide from 10.3 percent in 2015 to 8.8 percent last year, which is lower than it was in the years leading up to the recession.

Family households have a real median income of $75,062, and non-family households bring in $35,761.

It is also important to focus on the poverty rates in America. And that's more than 40 million people in all.

The increase in household incomes led to a decline in poverty.

At the same time, those living below the poverty line fell to 12.7%, the lowest since 2007, the US Census said.

On Thursday, the Census will release information on income, poverty and health insurance for states, counties and geographic units with populations of 65,000 or more.

In 2016, the increase in household incomes and decreases in poverty were mostly centered on traditionally marginalized demographics-racial and ethnic minorities, immigrants, the undereducated, and those with disabilities-as well as those living in urban areas. In Laredo, which had the highest share, 45 percent of children live in poverty.

"We need to perceive ourselves as on the up rise and in a place where things are getting better and will continue to get better", she said.

"There is an important relationship between the health of the USA labor market and the poverty rate, according to Page and Stevens". Unfortunately, 42 per cent of those children live in poverty, compared to just 25.5 per cent among children who live with their father. Peaceful worldwide trade has allowed men to sell more products overseas but also allowed employers to hire foreign workers instead of Americans. The effect of refundable tax credits (including the EITC, a tax credit program for the working poor) on the SPM, was a 2.6 percentage point reduction in poverty. The 2016 figure is not statistically different than the 2007 rate, the bureau said.
