White House 'Planning' on Health Care Vote This Week

Collins previously said she was "leaning no" on the Graham-Cassidy plan. It's definitely the most cowardly.

Repealing and replacing Obamacare has been a staple promise for the majority of Republicans in Congress, and for President Trump.

Several Republicans on Monday continued to express doubt or opposition to the bill, despite revisions meant to gain their support for the legislation, sponsored by Republican Sens. Bill Cassidy of Louisiana and Lindsey Graham of SC. The concept might sound good, but in reality, it would be disastrous for the millions of low- and moderate-income people it purports to help.

States would instead receive lump-sum payments to create their own health programs. This block grant provision is routed through an existing federal statute that bars federal funding for abortion care or for insurance coverage that includes abortion (again, except in cases of life endangerment, rape or incest). He was the Assistant Secretary of Planning and Evaluation in the Department of Health and Human Services in the Clinton administration, and he resigned in protest of a plan to turn the Temporary Assistance for Needy Families into a block grant program.

But the CBO, which is lawmakers' nonpartisan fiscal analyst, has said that it doesn't have time to determine the bill's impact on coverage and premiums, major factors for some lawmakers deciding their votes.

An increase in uninsured rates isn't the only easily foreseeable problem with this proposal. And now there appear to be three, meaning the bill could likely be dead on arrival when it reaches the Senate. It also doesn't replace this mandate with anything to give healthy people an incentive to get coverage.

To hold premiums down, states would probably be tempted to scale back benefit requirements and encourage the sale of cheap but almost worthless insurance plans.

Such changes might appeal to conservative Sen. The Graham-Cassidy bill would transform the structure of Medicaid, giving states control over how they spend federal funds.

Sponsors say the measure adds money for states with dissident senators including Maine, Alaska and Kentucky.

Mexico quake: Bodies of Taiwan, Korea, Spain nationals recovered
Officials say the total death toll is now 273, and the mayor of Mexico City says 50 people are still unaccounted for. Volunteers helped in the rescue work, wearing face masks and bicycle helmets and wielding pickaxes and shovels.

"No strings attached" is a bit of an understatement. Graham-Cassidy is a trillion dollar reshuffling of all the Obamacare money.

The numbers are misleading, partly because they omit GOP Medicaid cuts from clamping per-person spending caps on the programme, said Matt House, spokesman for Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer, D-N.Y.

Here's hoping he eased the path for other Republicans to oppose this legislative contraption whose cruelty is obvious.

Generally speaking, diseases and laws of economics don't recognize state borders.

Design an Alternative Solution without Federal Assistance: Option 3 would return power to the States to design and regulate insurance markets that work for their specific populations, without any federal assistance. First, there was the American Health Care Act, which was dead on arrival in the Senate after passing the House.

Tuesday, the Senate judiciary committee will consider two separate bipartisan-sponsored bills that would protect Justice Department special counsel Robert Mueller from being fired.

It has to be a red flag that no medical professional society is in favor of this bill.

"The bill would undermine protections for those with pre-existing conditions, threatening the existing coverage finally obtained by many under the Affordable Care Act", Dr. Macaulay said in his statement. However, some of the key Republican senators have opposed the health care policies revamp.
