Swedish player takes 1-shot lead

He was steady, and at times spectacular.

Tiger Woods was everywhere but the fairway and putted for birdie on only half of his holes. He made consecutive bogeys late on the front nine, and then after stretching his lead to two shots with his eagle, he made two bogeys over the next three holes.

Woods carded a one-under 71 at the North Course, at Torrey Pines, to move to one under for the tournament - 10 shots behind halfway leader Ryan Palmer.

He had missed all of 2016 battling back trouble, and last year's comeback bid was cut short by recurring pain and spinal fusion surgery in April.

"That's Tiger, not playing well and just going with what he's got to make it happen", four-time PGA Tour victor Hoffman told reporters.

Palmer began the third round with a one-shot lead and had two bad stretches. Despite all the physical and emotional scars he's built up in recent years, Woods has still only missed 16 career cuts on the PGA Tour as a pro in 315 starts.

3 - Fairways hit out of 14, which includes only one on his final nine.

But it's a fair more amiable and likable Woods who is genuinely grateful he's competing again, and proving it by staying on to sign hundreds of autographs for his army of fans - young and old.

Virender Sehwag Says, "Virat Kohli Should Drop Himself In The 3rd Test"
His departure forced South Africa to go into lock-down mode. "I didn't expect the ball would stay so low in this wicket". Shami was on a roll by this time, hitting the good length and getting some shape on nearly every delivery.

Woods' approach on No. 18 landed more than 60 feet from the hole.

Finau birdied his opening two holes on the North and finished with a 35-foot birdie putt for a 65.

"The positive of the first round was I made five birdies on the South course, which are tough to come by, and I just mixed it with some rough and silly errors due to being a bit rusty", said Day. "I'm glad I did that because I would have left that short". I'm still getting used to my feels but that just takes more time under the fire. There's still 36 holes to be played at Torrey South, a daunting undertaking for anybody, much less a 42-year-old coming off of major surgery for the fourth time.

His play from tee to green may have been "gross" (Woods' word), but it was also tidy.

The long-hitter has a career-high world ranking of eighth, and is now 19th.

There was a woman in a tiger onesie, a man in a T-shirt with a photo of a steely-eyed Tiger and the words, "Who said I was done?"

He accomplished that by making four birdies on his second nine: at No. 1, a par 4, where he rolled in a long putt; No. 5, a par-5, where he chipped his third shot close; No. 7, a 322-yard par-4, where he got up and down from deep greenside rough; and No. 9, his clincher. "I thought that would be a good, solid turnaround from being two-over at the turn".

"Just unfortunate it happened, but I made a good putt, had a couple really good putts down the stretch and had a good finish", Rahm said.
