Former Governor John Engler Named as Interim Michigan State University President

She said that "despite the board's words about accountability, it is business as usual", and "I sincerely hope the board reconsiders".

"If you get what you bargained for, then you really can't argue that you were prejudiced in any way", said Margaret Raben, former leader of a MI association of criminal defense attorneys.

Blanchard, 75, will serve as a senior adviser in a still-undetermined-role, Engler said. "We would like to make that known to all the media and all the press".

Engler retired past year and has a home with his wife, Michelle, in Laingsburg, Mich., about 15 miles northeast of Michigan State. As governor, Engler helped to overhaul school funding and was a strong advocate for charter schools. Engler has been a Washington-based political consultant since leaving office in 2003.

Michigan State legend Magic Johnson on Monday called for the firing of any employee who failed to report sexual assault allegations on campus to the proper authorities. The board will soon start the search for a permanent president.

Michigan State faces lawsuits by more than 100 women, alleging that the university allowed Nassar's abuse to persist despite victims' complaints. She made it clear the students are not in support of the decision.

Who will ever forget AJ Styles debuting, John Cena returning from injury or Kharma making an appearance. The fact that Alexander isn't in this match is another reason to suspect that he's the open challenger.

"I am proud of the exceptional work of the Special Victims Unit led by Lt. Andrea Munford with the steadfast leadership of Chief (Jim) Dunlap", Simon said. "With change comes pushback". Izzo called the 6-foot-2 point guard one of the program's best leaders at the time, and said Walton could potentially join his coaching staff in the future. Simon claimed not to have received a report of the ensuing Title IX investigation because, according to MSU spokesperson Jason Cody, administrative involvement "depends on the circumstances involved in each specific case", and this Title IX investigation concluded "Nassar's conduct was not of a sexual nature".

Forget politics: This state and, frankly, the U of M, needs a vibrant, healthy and transparent MSU, and I mean as a university, not a collection of sports teams.

In a letter posted late Tuesday night the group wrote quote, "Should the board indeed appoint ex-Governor Engler we'll be sadly forced to bring a vote of motion to hold a vote of no-confidence in the Board of Trustees to Academic Congress by an electronic ballot".

The news sparked strong reactions on social media, with some people applauding the news and others anxious that Engler was too much of a political insider to convey empathy, earn trust and enact real change.

The two front-runners in the Republican gubernatorial primary race in Michigan, Michigan Attorney General Bill Schuette and Lt. Gov. Brian Calley, are both angling to portray themselves as the defenders of women after Larry Nassar was sentenced to up to 175 years in prison for sexually abusing more than 150 female gymnasts.

Fuente went on to say that she didn't have much faith in the school after Engler's appointment.
