2nd shot at legalizing medical marijuana on Florida ballot

On Nov. 8, Floridians can vote on a proposed revision to a state constitution amendment, Amendment 2, that would expand the law governing medical marijuana and its users. Those regulations also will apply to the constitutional amendment.

Opponents who argued the amendment would hinder the development of alternative energy in Florida, celebrated the defeat of the measure, known as Amendment 1, as most counties continued posting results. While the bill failed when last presented to voters, a recent study by the University of North Florida found 73 percent of Florida voters are now in favor of legalizing medical marijuana.

Passage requires the approval of 60 percent of voters casting ballots.

Demings, who was re-elected by a 2-1 margin Tuesday, said children could be at risk for marijuana exposure as medical dispensaries might sell edible marijuana seen in other states that look appealing to children, mixing cannabis into sweets or treats.

Consumers for Smart Solar called the lawsuit "frivolous" and a "political stunt" meant to drum up last minute media attention for their anti-Amendment 1 campaign.

Issue 6 was one of two medical marijuana issues placed on the ballot.

In total, Floridians had to vote for four amendments.

Florida voters have a second chance to approve a state amendment legalizing medical marijuana for ailments including glaucoma, AIDS and post-traumatic stress disorder, after narrowly rejecting a similar measure two years ago.

How Bernie Sanders Inspired Candidates Across the Country
Though they expect they will have to push Clinton on issues when she's in office, they're willing to help put her there. Warren wanted to ensure her choices got picked, she could have run for president herself, as many urged her to do; Mr.

Voters like Neris Franco of the Pinecrest suburb of Miami said they weren't fooled by the confusing wording of the measure. In 2014, state lawmakers approved the "Charlotte's Web" strain of non-euphoric marijuana for patients suffering with epilepsy. The 2014 law also set up a regulatory structure for the marijuana industry. Another law adopted this year allows terminally ill patients to use full-strength marijuana.

Amendment 2 overcame that electoral hurdle and another multi-million dollar "no" campaign, again with significant contributions from Adelson, as well as Florida arch-prohibitionist Mel Sembler.

The Florida Department of Health will work to craft regulations for the new industry through July.

In anticipation of November's election, local governments around Florida have been considering ordinances that would restrict where the dispensaries can be located.

"Solar is tremendously popular across state and party lines, and today's rejection of Florida's anti-solar ballot measure is a reminder of that", said Scott Thomasson, director of new markets at Vote Solar. "The 2016 measure also addresses concerns regarding caregivers by making it clear that doctors would not be immune from malpractice claims for negligent prescribing of marijuana and by limiting how many patients a caregiver can treat with marijuana", Ballotpedia explains.

"This is not a pharmaceutical and guess what?"

"While I think it's pretty much inevitable that it's going to be legalized in most of the country, I really don't agree with it", said Krucas, 55, a diesel electrician.
