Arsenal's Arsene Wenger apologises after being sent off against Burnley

HE might not look that hard but while everyone else at the Emirates was wrapped up against the winter freeze, Arsene Wenger wasn't even wearing a coat as he toughed it out on the sidelines.

That second penalty only added to the unfolding sense of high drama.

Wenger had to celebrate Sanchez's dramatic victor out of the limelight, having been sent off by Moss during a thrilling, fractious climax, which ended with Dyche as the wronged party, the Burnley boss angrily confronting the fourth official as another away point slipped out of his team's grasp. In the 50th minute Sanchez again fizzed an effort just over after picking the ball up on the right.

"Bizarre", Dyche said. Bizarre, indeed.

The Clarets, who slipped to 13th, have taken just one point from 10 away games.

It might have been the opening of the floodgates, a moment to loosen Burnley's compact rearguard, but as Wenger lamented later Arsenal made things complicated for themselves when Granit Xhaka was shown a red card for a risky, late challenge on Burnley's Belgian midfielder Steven Defour.

Granit Xhaka is not a nasty player but far too often the red mist descends and he makes reckless tackles.

Arsenal host Burnley at the Emirates Stadium in the Premier League on Sunday January 22, kicking off at 1415 GMT live on Sky Sports 1 HD. He earned yet another rebuke from Wenger. Goalkeeper Tom Heaton proved equal to the task when called upon to make saves from Mesut Ozil, Koscielny and Sanchez.

Burnley had fought back after Shkodran Mustafi's first-half opener, equalising though Andre Gran's penalty in the 93rd minute, following the sending off of Granit Xhaka on 65 minutes. It came from a corner by Ozil, whose fellow German global evaded his marker, Stephen Ward, and angled a deft header across Heaton and into the net.

Arsenal's 2-1 victory over Burnley yesterday afternoon shouldn't be hailed as a "big" result by any means, it should be looked at as a timely reminder from where it all went wrong last season.

Kieran Gibbs, Francis Coquelin and Hector Bellerin are all back in training but only Bellerin is likely to be in contention for a place in the starting eleven with the former two still some distance away from being fully fit.

Speaking immediately after the game, though, Wenger categorically denied making contact with Taylor. Cech got a hand to Gray's kick but could not stop it. Arsene Wenger's men were dominating possession but it wasn't until just before the break when they should have taken the lead.

Wenger's men are just one of three sides to leave Burnley with maximum points after Laurent Koscielny bundled home an injury-time victor, with replays suggesting not only was the France global offside but that the ball went in off his elbow.

SEAN DYCHE was taking charge of his 200th match as Burnley manager.

"That's what we've been doing, that is why we are always risky until the end - because we believe in ourselves".
