QB Glennon inks deal with Bears

In preparing for free agency, Glennon scouted teams that he felt could be in the market for a starting quarterback, and the Bears checked all of his boxes. If that were the case, the Jacksonville Jaguars would have won the Super Bowl this past season. That's a lot of money no matter how you slice it, but it also means this three-year deal is essentially a one-year contract.

Now, for the first time since his days at North Carolina State, Glennon has the keys to the offense before the season. They were roommates at Virginia Tech together. "It wasn't something we talked about but it was something where we both, I guess, tried to one-up each other ..." Wright's best year came in 2013 when he caught 94 passes for 1,079 yards. He never has been named a starter so early in the calendar year.

It's an interesting signing, considering the 27-year-old Glennon has started just 18 career games, throwing for 4,100 yards, 30 touchdowns and 15 interceptions since his selection in the third round of the 2013 National Football League draft. "Because in the past that hasn't been the case for me", he said. And if you don't have a guy, you have to find a way to get one. The Bears' revolving door of playcallers also contributed to Cutler's failure to develop into a franchise quarterback.

Apparently, the Buccaneers didn't see anything in Glennon that prevented them from drafting Jameis Winston with the first pick in the 2015 draft.

"It's a tough call", said one executive, speaking on the condition of anonymity to discuss players under contract to other teams. "I feel confident in myself and I think I'll have success here in Chicago".

Glennon's first request: an iPad with the playbook on it.

"His ability, toughness, and intelligence were on daily display at Halas Hall and Soldier Field".

Sorry. That's all I've got. Now that I have you thinking happy thoughts, hear me out.

Obviously, this was not the plan for Bears' general manager Ryan Pace when they outlined their strategy for free agency at the start of the off-season.

"When I watched the Bears film, I saw a great offensive line, I saw a great running game and I saw playmakers on the outside". They were speaking about Glennon and New England Patriots backup Jimmy Garoppolo, who perhaps could be available in a prospective trade if some team is willing to offer a king's ransom of draft choices to New England.

Plus, the speedster said, he can throw it deep.

He laughed and then added, "I don't think I need to expand on that". "I was and am a big fan of his".

Glennon arrived in Chicago with eyes wide open. My gut always told me the Bears. "My wife can attest to that".

Honesty is important, so I want you all to know that even though this is for my job, I'm writing this mostly to sort through my emotions. And Pace likes his quarterback.
