Leaked Trump draft order blames NAFTA for 'massive' wealth transfer from US

Farm Groups are breathing a sigh of relief, now that President Trump has decided not to withdraw the US from the North American Free Trade Agreement. He had decided, he said, to instead reward Beijing for helping deal with a belligerent North Korea.

President Donald Trump has signed an executive order that will roll back restrictions on oil drilling in the Arctic.

He said relationships between the USA and Mexico and Canada are "very good — deal very possible". They say Canada is setting a nationalist policy that makes it cheaper for processors to buy Canadian-made ingredients, undercutting foreign competitors.

Trump should want to make sure he preserves and strengthens America's relationship with Mexico, while opening up the markets in Canada, Vilsack said.

Then, in March, the administration sent a draft letter to Congress spelling out plans to renegotiate NAFTA.

Without NAFTA, they wouldn't. Over the past year, US lawmakers have had extensive communication with their Canadian counterparts, and with Prime Minister Justin Trudeau and his cabinet over the country's dairy pricing policies.

Williams the OT hero as Caps beat Leafs in Game 5
We all know the Capitals are the better team here and could easily win this game on the road to avoid a game seven. "That's how the series is going to be and we've got to find a way to pull off one or two wins here", Kadri said.

"It shows that I do have a very big farmer base, which is good", Trump told the Post. Mr. Schumer said the National Ingredients Strategy in Canada is putting US dairy farmers at a disadvantage.

"Scrapping NAFTA would be a disastrously bad idea". Stephenson said on Here And Now that he considers Canada's dairy policies "highly protectionist", and thinks it could be violating worldwide trade agreements. But that official said NAFTA has been a top priority for the president since Day One and said the administration has been working on it since taking office. "Many of America's biggest, most successful businesses are highly dependent on North American supply chains and their goods may cross one or the other borders several times during the production process".

"Hey, I'm a nationalist and a globalist", Trump told the Wall Street Journal on Thursday, less than a day after he was persuaded by White House advisers and leaders from Canada and Mexico to rescind his threat to pull the US out of the 23-year-old trade deal. "Americans seem to really like guacamole", Noland said, "but the idea that we are going to have giant greenhouses and lots of avocados and limes - the fact that we are purchasing them from the Mexicans rather than producing them at home tells you producing them at home is more expensive". Trump said. "They called me up, they said, 'Could we try negotiating?' I said, 'Absolutely, yes.' If we can't come to a satisfactory conclusion, we'll terminate NAFTA".

Mexican officials continued to talk to their US counterparts as the hours passed, and toward the end of the day Pena Nieto called Trump for a conversation that lasted about 20 minutes. But threatening to simply scrap a trade agreement altogether isn't the sort of thoughtful approach one hopes to see from a man tasked with navigating the delicate and important issue of global trade.

Trump recently ramped up his criticism of Canada and this week ordered 20 percent tariffs on imports of Canadian softwood lumber, setting a tense tone as the three countries prepared to renegotiate the pact. The governor said he has remained in contact with the president about the ongoing situation.
