North Korea may have tested new technology in latest missile

While Donald Trump has predicted that his Mar-a-Lago meeting with Xi Jinping tomorrow will be "very hard", Americans are actually beginning to soften their stance toward China overall, though they remain skeptical about the Chinese president himself.

Susan Thornton, Acting Assistant Secretary of State for East Asian and Pacific Affairs, made the comment at a briefing on tomorrow's meeting between US President Donald Trump and China's President Xi Jinping.

A senior White House official, who spoke on condition of anonymity to preview the summit with Xi, also said Tuesday that the clock for resolving the North Korean nuclear issue "has now run out", and the U.S.is looking at "all options on the table". And somehow we will mix, they really do mix. He said that hadn't happened "over different dialogues and offers over the course of four administrations".

Like his predecessors, Trump is pressing China to exert more economic pressure on North Korea, though there is no sign he will be any more successful than past American presidents.

What people in Beijing think is that Trump - the dealmaker - is using a "trade war" as the threat to get action from China in other areas.

Greg Valliere, chief global strategist at Horizon Investments, said Trump officials are turning up the heat and have made a us military strike more likely with this rhetoric.

"Three past presidents have sought political, economic and diplomatic steps to get North Korea to denuclearize but failed miserably", Keane said.

"China has great influence over North Korea", Trump declared in an interview with the Financial Times on Sunday. The administration may be realizing that the US and China depend on each other and that conflict over trade would hurt the American economy as well, he said.

China says it is doing all it can and has said it is up to the United States to de-escalate with Pyongyang.

"This is the story of why China has taken advantage of us economically forever, because every time there's some geopolitical consideration - China's done nothing on North Korea", Schumer said.

South Korea's foreign ministry also condemned the launch as a blunt challenge to a series of U.N. Security Council resolutions targeting North Korea's nuclear and missile program.

Recent aggression from North Korea will also be a key item on the agenda, with China widely seen as one of the few countries that can pressure North Korea into toning down its aggressive rhetoric.

Toshiba will close the first round of bids for its chip business - the world's second-biggest NAND chip producer - on Wednesday. The acquisition was aimed at winning Toshiba more business in decontamination, decommissioning and plant projects.

"With Trump in the past repeatedly accusing China of keeping its currency at artificially low levels against the dollar and stealing American jobs, the outcome of the meeting is something that remains unknown", FXTM research analyst Lukman Otunuga said. During the transition, Trump broke protocol by taking a phone call from Taiwan's president and suggesting he was opening to reversing the "one China" policy recognizing the island as part of China.

"China is coming here to try to figure Trump out".

Behind the scenes in the West Wing, moderate and hardline aides are competing for Trump's ear as he prepares for the talks, according to multiple United States officials familiar with preparation for the meetings.

But that was not carried out even according to China's own statistics. Xi is known for making such large gestures on important state visits.

There's even a possibility that North Korea could conduct a sixth nuclear test during Trump and Xi's summit.

Unlike Abe, Xi also turned down Trump's invitation to stay at Mar-a-Lago.

"The U.S. Secretary of State expressed his acceptance of this [concept] ... when he visited China in March", Wei wrote. "Tomorrow, the U.S. -China summit meeting will be held in a situation like this".

In a statement, the agency said: "U.S".

In any case, the overriding consensus among North Korea experts is that the timing and type of the North's next provocation will most likely depend on the results from Florida.

On the first, experts are predicting that Xi will come bearing enticements in the form of promises to invest in US manufacturing.

"We're rapidly and dangerously heading towards the reality that the military option is the only one left when it comes to getting North Korea to denuclearize and not weaponized [intercontinental ballistic missiles]", said retired four-star Gen. Jack Keane.
