Thornton returns to lineup for Sharks in Game 3 vs. Oilers

Mayor Don Iveson and Edmonton Oilers alumni will be at the rally in Sir Winston Churchill Square, where the city said fans showing their "orange crush spirit" will have a chance to win one of five pairs of tickets to Thursday's Game 5 against the San Jose Sharks. The Oilers, who finished eighth in league scoring this season, and San Jose (19th) have turned a 3-2 league into a 2-1 league, and it's heading south with back-to-back Cam Talbot shutouts.

Brent Burns, Joe Pavelski, Patrick Marleau, Logan Couture - all 25-plus goal scorers in the regular season - didn't generate many shots either, much to the dismay of the majority of the 17,562 fans that jammed into SAP Center.

The Edmonton Oilers didn't need to be reminded that despite San Jose's age, injuries and tepid start to the series, the Sharks are still a lethal force in the playoffs. Team Teal hasn't scored since Melker Karlsson potted the overtime victor in game one of the series, failing to solve Cam Talbot in the past six periods of postseason hockey.

Through three games, the two teams have scored a total of eight goals and five of those goals were in Game 1. Once that first puck went in, a bag of goals followed.

Zack Kassian scored the only goal and Cam Talbot made 23 saves for his second straight shutout as Edmonton downed the San Jose Sharks 1-0 on Sunday in Game 3 of their Western Conference quarter-final series. "Everyone was ready. We've been there. there weren't really any lapses in our game".

The Sharks needed only 15 seconds to get on the board for the first time since Melker Karlsson's overtime victor in Game 1 when Pavelski deflected a shot by defenceman Justin Braun past Talbot. That's why they won't be rattled by what's waiting for them in Game 5 Thursday in Edmonton.

"You knew they were going to come through eventually", Chris Tierney said.

Thornton returned to play on the top power play unit, but the Sharks' problems persisted as they wee unable to set up in the Oilers' zone for any significant amount of time.

"I like playing on the kill, especially in these games when we keep taking a lot (of penalties)". It all added up to the most lopsided playoff win in Sharks history and biggest shutout win in 10 years in the National Hockey League.

Kassian walked out and backhanded his second goal of the series under the Jones' pads at 10:45 on the Oilers' 21st shot of the game.

"We were bad tonight, obviously", McDavid said. In the Sharks' Game 1 overtime win, the team took 44 shots. "We came in, got home-ice advantage back but it would be nice to come in and play another job like that on Tuesday".

The game started so promising for the Sharks, who welcomed back future Hall of Fame center Joe Thornton to the lineup.

"We're one of the teams that is still here", said San Jose coach Pete DeBoer, adding it's better to be in trouble than on the outside looking in.

"It was kind of like a goosebumps moment where you're just like, 'Oh my God, ' like this is intense ... we're in the playoffs, like this is actually happening".

San Jose went on the power play at 16:43 when Edmonton winger Benoit Pouliot was guilty of a rough.

Couture also played his best game of series, scoring a power play goal in the first just one shift after he took a high stick to the teeth that required him to leave the ice twice to get his mouth numbed.

San Jose then took the game over in the second starting when Marleau scored on an early power play.
