Trump reverses himself on 4 campaign positions in just 1 day

President Trump's on-the-job training is exposing how much he didn't know when he was running for the nation's highest office.

Taken individually, the reversals of just the past week seem to prove the oft-stated point that Trump is not bound by even his own past words - that even Trump does not take his words literally.

Regarding the USA airstrike on al-Shayrat air base in Syria, Trump said "we did the right thing, and it was very, very successfully done".

It turns out that wielding power - as opposed to criticizing it - can change your outlook.

Stoltenberg said that Trump was "right" about noting the changes. "We leap in, thinking we're helping the poor devils under the thumb of a dictator - and then the new tribe takes over and oppresses everyone else, usually much more brutally, while hating us even more than the old tribe did".

Last month in these pages, Tyler Cowen coined the term "placebo President" to describe the possibility that Donald Trump would largely fail to achieve the radically populist policy objectives he campaigned on but maintain the support of his white working class base by symbolically affirming their dignity and cultural status-offering his supporters "a public voice and the illusion of more control without the control itself".

Cheng says Xi is likely to have sought - and received - assurances from Trump that the US would hold off on using military force against North Korea, giving tougher sanctions and diplomacy more time to work. Maybe he prefers to approach issues with an open (or empty) mind.

Mr Trump also appears to have grown fond of the US Export-Import Bank, which has been a rallying cry for conservatives who consider it a mechanism of crony capitalism.

TAKING DOWN THE TOP SEEDS: Mississippi State is looking to be the third team in NCAA history to beat three No. 1 seeds. SC players celebrate after defeating Mississippi State 59-49 in the Southeastern Conference Tournament final March 5.

The meeting at the White House comes hours after US Secretary of State Rex Tillerson met Russian President Vladimir Putin during a trip to Moscow. "They study it because they're so into it that they don't realize". North Atlantic Treaty Organisation has the experience, the expertise, and the staying power to make a real difference, and fighting terrorism will be an important topic when North Atlantic Treaty Organisation leaders meet in Brussels in May. "At the right time everyone will come to their senses & there will be lasting peace!" he tweeted. But in the face of realities, there's been a switch.

Trump has evolved on other China-related policies as well. He said a US declaration of Chinese manipulation could jeopardize efforts to secure the country's help in containing the threat posed by North Korea.

On Tuesday, Trump tweeted that he'd told Xi a trade deal with the United States would be "far better for them if they solve the North Korea problem". "Many European allies have to invest more in defense and I'm pushing that very hard because we need to invest more in security when tensions are going up".

Attorney General Jeff Sessions, a Bannon ally, recently visited the U.S. -Mexico border to announce a series of tough actions aimed at curbing illegal immigration and imposing tougher penalties on those who harbor illegal immigrants in America.

After a day full of policy flip-flops from President Donald Trump, White House press secretary Sean Spicer said that the President isn't changing his positions - rather, the issues have shifted to fit his worldview.

MARTIN: So key to this is China's help with North Korea which is an urgent threat.

"Both sides seem to have achieved some of the objectives they sought from each other's concessions", says Cheng Xiaohe, a North Korea expert at People's University in Beijing.

Foreign Ministry spokesman Lu Kang said that "China made unremitting efforts to push the council to reach a consensus and speak with one voice", and Beijing regrets, Lu added, that it did not happen. "But we could make a difference if we had something closer to balanced trade". Trump has a Republican majority in both the House and the Senate, but some of those GOP policymakers might reasonably find it hard to sign onto Trump's agenda when they can't be sure that that agenda won't change tomorrow. "I said (during the presidential campaign) it was obsolete". "We have strength in our capabilities when it comes to fighting terrorism".
