White House accuses Russian Federation of covering up Syria chemical attack

While the conflict in Syria is expected to be discussed, President Trump blamed Russia-whose government backs Syrian President Bashar al-Assad-for issues in the Middle Eastern country.

More than 80 people were killed in what the USA has described as a nerve gas attack that Assad's forces undoubtedly carried out.

Despite initial hopes in Moscow of better ties with the United States under Trump, the two powers have descended into a furious war of words over the incident and a retaliatory U.S. missile strike against the forces of the Kremlin's ally Bashar Assad last week.

Rycroft said Russian Federation has a choice of sticking with "the toxic Assad regime that poisons its own people" or seeking peace through negotiations and a political transition.

President Donald Trump says his chief strategist Steve Bannon joined his campaign "very late", downplaying the notion that Bannon is an influential member of his team. He said Assad and Russian Federation have taken to casting doubt on their actions to pre-empt further military reprisals from the US.

"It was planned and executed by Syrian regime forces we are quite confident of that".

The deal was suspended after USA strikes against a Syrian airbase following last week's suspected chemical attack in Idlib province, in an act Moscow labelled "aggression against a sovereign state". "I said that this was a provocation but who it was organized by, I did not say".

Several senior administration figures have been dogged with accusations of cooperation with Russian Federation when they meddled in the 2016 presidential election, which has led to an FBI investigation and the resignation of national security adviser Michael Flynn.

In the same interview, to be aired in full later Wednesday, he said several states had been "nodding like bobbleheads without analyzing the events".

Days after that attack, Trump ordered a cruise missile strike that targeted a Syrian air base - a strike that Russian Federation says violated global law. Without a political solution, Washington will most likely support the moderate Syrian opposition in order to pressure the regime and Iran to accept a moderate political solution.

"Right now we're not getting along with Russian Federation at all", Trump said flatly during a White House news conference.

Putin said relations had worsened.

In the briefing Tuesday, Putin suggested that Russian Federation and Syria were being demonized. In a Tuesday morning interview with NPR, he said Obama's diplomatic efforts wielded longer-term results than Trump's military action. Just the opposite, Moscow's decision to suspend a vital communications link with the US military in Syria has signaled its readiness to raise the stakes.

However, at the same briefing, Spicer drew criticism after he sought to underscore the ghastliness of the gas attack by saying: "You had someone as despicable as Hitler who didn't even sink to using chemical weapons".

"They came back to me with a number of different alternatives and we hit them very hard".

The Syrian civil war has been raging for almost six years, and is being fought between government troops and numerous opposition and terrorist organizations, such as the Islamic State (IS), outlawed in Russian Federation. "The exact same thing is happening now, and their partners are nodding approvingly". The White House press secretary has called Syria a failed state.

The poll also found that 66 percent of respondents supported the Trump administration's decision to launch a missile strike on the Syrian Army's Shyrat Airbase last Friday.

Tillerson reiterated the USA position that Syrian President Bashar al-Assad must eventually relinquish power in Syria, a position starkly at odds with Russian Federation.

Small tit-for-tat offensives and counteroffensives on the frontier between government and rebel forces are common enough at any rate, that the losing a handful of villages in northern Hama would not have sparked such an act of desperation, meaning the United States claim is not credible.

De Mistura said Russia, Iran and Turkey, as guarantors of a December cease-fire that has been repeatedly broken, must also "step up and deliver now".

The Russian Defense Ministry said Wednesday that those strikes were not as effective as the United States claims.
