Department of Justice-appointed Special Counsel Robert Mueller is conducting what is generally called a preliminary inquiry into possible obstruction of justice involving President Donald Trump, as it pertains to his broader investigation into Russian meddling in the USA presidential election.

On CNN's "New Day", Sekulow argued that the president was not under investigation, despite his and the Post report, because the White House hadn't been told that was the case. "Most special prosecutors involved in this type of litigation would have avoided as much as possible people with political ties or contributions." he added, "When you're investigating the president of the United States, you should be trying to avoid any questions of political bias or influence".

"That has been the case now for almost a year", Carson continued.

Mueller declined comment as he left the meeting Tuesday.

These investigations are focused upon the alleged links with Russians that some people in Trump's campaign team maintained before the elections. Moreover, he used an Federal Bureau of Investigation computer to create a memo of an incident that took place within his scope of work, which involved a meeting with the president and the conversation that transpired between the then-acting director and the nation's chief executive.
