U.S. imperialism and threat of nuclear war against North Korea

U.S. President Donald Trump has aroused much controversy lately when he warned that, "North Korea best not make any more threats to the United States".

When North Korea announced it had presented plans to Kim Jong Un on a possible strike at Guam, it included deescalatory language that seemed to invite the USA to tone down its military exercises. "The alternative would be disastrous and unacceptable." wrote the owner of the White house.

When asked to clarify if the United States would have to get permission from South Korea before any sort of strike against the North, Nauert only responded, "South Korea is an ally of ours; and as we do with our allies and friends, we pledge to protect them as well".

China and Russian Federation have called for a "double freeze" or "double suspension" approach, whereby North declares a moratorium on its nuclear and missile tests in exchange for South Korea and the United States halting their joint military exercises.

A US official, who asked not to be named, said that while periodic activity has been seen at North Korea's Punggye-ri nuclear test site, he had not seen movement there for over a month and there were no current signs of an imminent test.

China has called for both the U.S. and North Korea to "hit the brakes" in their war of words, and Beijing and Russian Federation developed a "double freezing" initiative last month which would cease any missile launches and nuclear tests in Pyongyang, as well as large-scale military exercises by Washington and Seoul.

President Moon stressed that the worldwide community shares this view as reflected in the unanimous adoption of unprecedented economic sanctions on North Korea by the UN Security Council.

In the past six months, North Korea has tested 18 missiles, including two intercontinental ballistic missiles. A day later, he doubled down on his threat saying a military option against North Korea is "locked and loaded".

Grossman said, "So the Atlantic World media is asking, 'Where is North Korea leader Kim Jong-un?'"

Some analysts argue the United States could carry out precision strikes on North Korea's nuclear and missile arsenals, and then deter North Korea from striking back, avoiding a large-scale war.

But he might have already been in a heightened state of awareness in light of recent ambushes of police, they added. WILLIAMS: Arradondo didn't offer details but said Chief Janee Harteau will soon be releasing an updated policy.

But he says North Korea still has a ways to go.

Kim's fiery threats are meant to deter the United States from launching such an attack, to play to domestic audiences and to browbeat North Korea's neighbors.

Lobbing missiles toward Guam, a major USA military hub in the Pacific, would be deeply provocative from the US perspective.

North Korea this week has detailed its plan to test-launch ballistic missiles into waters near the U.S. Pacific territory.

"There doesn't appear to be any indication, based on what we're hearing, that there will be any missiles attacking in the near future or in the distant future", lieutenant governor Ray Tonorio said.

The North replied by setting a mid-August deadline to finalise plans to test-fire its missiles towards Guam, a U.S. territory in the Pacific.

Kim added, "If the Yankees persist in their extremely unsafe reckless actions on the Korean Peninsula and in its vicinity, testing the self-restraint of the DPRK, the [North] will make an important decision as it already declared", meaning he might still order a strike against Guam, or put some missiles offshore to test American resolve. When the North criticized the Moon government for the first time, it was related to South Korea's response to the North's launch of the Hwasong-12 missile on May 18. North Korean air defences such as the SA-5 and the SA-3 surface-to-air missiles are "essentially Vietnam War-vintage systems, he said, making Pyongyang "very vulnerable to stealth and cruise missile attacks". Unfortunately, it would be no surprise if Kim Jong-un attempted to test more.

North Korea has often threatened to attack the United States and its bases and released similar photos in the past but never followed through.

US military officials have publicly warned against a military conflict because of the catastrophic loss of life it would lead to, saying diplomatic efforts are the priority.
