Barkley named Big Ten offensive player of the week

Penn State has looked about as good as anyone three weeks into the season. Thanks to this Iowa win, however, Penn State could potentially split those games and still keep their playoff hopes alive. It'll go down in the official accounting as a first-down pickup in the fourth quarter, but the hurdle doubled as Barkley's Heisman moment.

Starting this week against IN, IN a game PSU is favored by 18.

Fast forward 23 years to Saturday night in Iowa City, and Penn State was back in a similar situation.

Considering the team had amassed just 33 yards of offense prior to the score, the Hawkeyes needed a minor miracle, and they got it due in large part to Brincks' hustle and muscle.

The Hawkeyes winning this game would be like Iowa State making a bowl game, so, not very likely. The Boilermakers (2-1) opened with a seven-point loss to Louisville, and their 34-3 win at Missouri boosted confidence. Iowa tried for two again and failed to connect on the pass.

Of those 99, Penn State arguably "won, " 65-70 of them. It is worth noting that the team did have two timeouts left.

McSorley hit Johnson for 12 yards on the first play to the 32.

After a short throw, then a pair of incompletions, Penn State faced fourth-and-goal with four seconds left.

Del Rio, who relieved Feleipe Franks in the second half, completed 9 of 14 passes for 74 yards.

Iowa sacked McSorley four times and more often was able to contain him, building a wall and then batting down throws. He simply couldn't be stopped and the nation got to watch him put on a show Saturday night.

With 804 career receiving yards, Barkley already has broken Tony Hunt's Penn State record for running backs.

Half empty: Barkley is a human being - we think - and he's susceptible to overwork, fatigue or dare we say injury if he is going to be relied upon as much as he was Saturday (28 runs, 12 catches, three kickoff returns).

Penn State and coach James Franklin are 4-0 this season after beating Akron, Pitt, Georgia State and Iowa.

"I noticed that right away my freshman year, " Daniels said. One play later, the Hawkeyes scored their only touchdown of the half in taking a 7-5 lead.

The 2016 Nittany Lions - beset by injuries to starting linebackers Nyeem Wartman White, Brandon Bell and Jason Cabinda - gave up 131 points in the first four games to open the season: 13 to Kent State, 42 at Pitt, 27 to Temple and 49 to MI. Each team finished with one blocked field goal.

Kerryon Johnson, RB, Auburn Tigers: The week of the running back continued with Johnson's performance at Missouri Tigers, where he found the end zone early and often. Barkley ran the ball 10 times for 63 yards. Albrecht added back-to-back kills for match point, and the Huskers clinched the sweep on her 19th and final kill of the night.

Said linebacker Brandon Smith: "We're just going to have to focus on our own mentalities and bring our own energy". Penn State in giving up 126 ypg rushing on their end which to a Penn State fan could be concerning. The Hawkeyes are just 1-2 against the spread and are an underdog for the first time this season. Eleven seconds to play. While there wasn't a player of Saquon Barkley's caliber on the field for Penn State in that game, you can bet he'll be a factor in this one. Iowa had just taken the lead on a quick three-play, 80-yard drive following a missed field goal by Penn State deep in the Iowa end of the field.

Iowa 19, Penn State 15: The Hawkeyes got a pass interference call on PSU's Marcus Allen and a 22-yard pass from Stanley to Matt VandeBerg to move into Lions' territory. On Saturday in his 27th career start, the senior led the Nittany Lions with six tackles, including 1.5 for a loss.

Half empty: OK, let's dive into the numbers and see if there's a bit of a growing concern with the overall offense and passing attack. Penn State's offense must find ways to spread the wealth, which it usually does.
