Stephen King's It: The reviews are in

New Line Cinema presents a Vertigo Entertainment/Lin Pictures/Katzsmith Production, "IT". It (It?) focuses entirely on the kids of Derry, Maine (the fictional setting for other Stephen King stories like Pet Sematary, Insomnia, The Dark Tower VII, and Under the Dome), who discover that something is amiss in their seemingly ideally small town.

Every version of It (there was a memorable television mini-series with Tim Curry as Pennywise in the early "90s) starts out the same way: a young boy is playing in the rain with a paper boat, he loses it down a gutter, then when he looks for it he finds a clown standing down in the sewer". Bill Skarsgård was a left-field choice for the role, but it was absolutely the right choice.

Following the novel's example, Muschietti has constructed a film that's just as much "Stand by Me" as creature feature, and casting director Rich Delia goes above the call of duty assembling a group of youngsters who are every bit as amusing, irritating and empathetic as the script requires. He not only brought mystery and an intriguing quality to the character but had the guts to explore Pennywise's insane theatricality.

Everything about Skarsgård is flawless; his vocal performance is bubbly and childlike but conceals a growling beast underneath, his body language feels spry and utterly inhuman, and his clear love of being evil bursts through at every possible moment. I review films, and a film needed reviewing; you just gotta do what you gotta do sometimes, and I'm so glad I did. And it gives away little to say that by focusing steadfastly on the youths in this story - as opposed to jumping back and forth in time, as the miniseries did - the movie shrewdly sets up an inevitable (and planned) sequel featuring their older selves pressed into battle. "Andy trusted me and I trusted him. We had a great collaboration between the two of us". A tale that both works as an adaptation and stands firmly on its own, It is one of the best horror films of the year - and might make more than a few general best-of-2017 lists.

"I've had to change the way that I put on my makeup", Diamonds said. And it freaked me out! Credit must go to the young cast, among whom there is no single weak link; it's as authentic a portrayal of children staring down the barrel of adolescence as you're ever likely to see.

Bruised Lanka look to Malinga now
India continued their unbeaten run in Sri Lanka , beating the home side by 168 runs in the fourth ODI at Colombo . The former India skipper also came close to scoring his 3 consecutive ODI half-century but missed out by a run.

"Tim Curry did his thing and nobody can do a Tim Curry performance as well as him so I tried to make a Bill performance out of this".

What's going to set your interpretation of Pennywise apart? "It's an iconic moment in the book that many people will be waiting to see", the director acknowledges.

If you close your eyes during the scariest scenes in "IT", who knows what your imagination might conjure up - because that's what "IT" is all about. He also still looks kind of cute because of his smile. Roy Lee, Dan Lin, Seth Grahame-Smith, David Katzenberg and Barbara Muschietti produced the film, with Dave Neustadter, Walter Hamada, Richard Brener, Toby Emmerich, Marty P. Ewing, Doug Davison, Jon SILK and Niija Kuykendall serving as executive producers.

The van that they used to transport me around was taped black and we really only had one scene outdoors, but we were able to film in such a way that onlookers couldn't really see me. But there's more, with some judiciously applied CGI allowing Pennywise to morph into each of The Losers" greatest fears - which are not, thankfully, a cavalcade of "80s screen monsters to offer a first-base update of the Universal monsters in the book. It took the crew a full week before we all settled down, because you never know - 'Is he not going to want to be talked to?

Meanwhile the film has unveiled three new extended clips ahead of it's release on 8 September.
