Kendall Fuller Is More Surprised By His Trade Than Everyone Else

Not content with being overshadowed by (yet another) New England Patriots Super Bowl, the National Football League offseason got off to a roaring start last night with a huge trade - former first overall pick Alex Smith going to the Washington Redskins. Cousins has played the last two seasons under an increasingly expensive franchise tag, and Washington has avoided making a decision on whether to sign him for the long term.

And yet, Tuesday night brought with it one of the most exciting recent trades we've seen.

Former Washington quarterback Robert Griffin III reacted to the news of Cousins' impending departure by posting to Twitter, "Some how. Some way.they will blame this on me". Washington is moving on, which means Cousins will be one of the most sought-after free agents this offseason.

With Smith set to sign a four-year, $94 million deal in the nation's capital, the 33-year-old veteran can likely breathe a sigh of relief knowing his future won't be in the Dawg Pound.

The Kansas City Chiefs traded up last season to select Patrick Mahomes with the No. 10 overall pick in the 2017 NFL Draft. That deal will include $71 million guaranteed and an average of $23.5 million annually in new money.

Why do politicians and judges get paid during a government shutdown?
According to a report, the bill needed 60 votes to pass and it was well short of that number with 48 senators voting against it. There are also employees or agencies whose work is not funded through Congress that will be largely unaffected by the shutdown.

Then Smith's contract details leaked. The tag seemed nearly guaranteed to be the only option again this year.

There is still no word, however, on whether or not Browns general manager John Dorsey went home at 5 p.m. and missed out on trading for a quarterback that he worked with while in Kansas City.

Bowl XLVII. The 49ers traded Smith to the Chiefs for two first-round picks the following offseason. The three-time Pro Bowler didn't reach 4,000 passing yards in a season until 2017, but has only thrown 96 picks (and 183 touchdowns), in his career.

Foles labeled Smith as a player who "can turn a locker room around", calling him "one of the most athletic guys" in the NFL. Washington let Pierre Garcon and DeSean Jackson walk in free agency, hurting Cousins' numbers a bit. A number of teams, including the Jets, Broncos, Browns, Dolphins, Cardinals, Bills etc. are all potential landing spots.
