State lawmakers weigh in on delayed health care vote

Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell (R-Ky.) told White House Chief of Staff Reince Priebus that the attacks were "beyond stupid" and that they only hurt the health care bill's chances of passing the Senate, according to the New York Times.

"And while it's hard to imagine, in some ways the Senate's legislation would make our nation's failing healthcare system worse", he said.

"It's a very complicated subject", McConnell said.

Originally, the protest's goal was to persuade Mr. Portman to oppose the bill, said George Tucker, executive secretary of the Greater Northwest Ohio AFL-CIO.

But McConnell insisted the measure was far from dead.

After meeting with President Donald Trump and other administration officials with fellow Republican senators at the White House, Hoeven elaborated on his position Tuesday in an interview. "We are getting very close". Susan Collins and Paul said that they would vote against even debating the health care bill in its current form. "And that's really where we're sort of at loggerheads here".

The delay comes a day after the Congressional Budget Office (CBO) scored H.R. 1628, Better Care Reconciliation Act of 2017, the Senate amendment to the American Health Care Act (AHCA) passed by the U.S. House of Representatives in May. There may also be some more money dedicated to Medicaid and opioid addiction to attract moderate Republicans, but that would not be enough to shore up the deep cuts to Medicaid.

He said he does believe there are some senators, like Sen. "The mentally ill, the drug-addicted, the chronically ill ... and the working poor".

The Senate legislation would drastically cut Medicaid beginning in 2025, phase out Obamacare's Medicaid expansion, repeal most of the law's taxes, end a penalty on Americans who do not obtain insurance and overhaul Obamacare's subsidies to help people buy insurance with tax credits.

It would abolish the requirement for most Americans to have health insurance. The senator also said Trump was confused when a moderate expressed concern that the bill would be seen as a tax break for the rich.

Republicans are now going to regroup, hoping to bring the bill back to life after the July 4th holiday. That brings the total number of Republican Senators now expected to vote against the bill to at least nine.

"It's the biggest signature issue we have".

"You remember how the Republicans have been promising to repeal and replace Obamacare for seven years now?" opened "Late Show" host Stephen Colbert Tuesday.

Republicans hold 52 Senate seats.

White House spokeswoman Sarah Sanders said the senators were coming to the White House to continue working on getting the best bill for the American people. The bill was short of support heading toward a critical procedural vote Wednesday.

"It's an ongoing discussion, and several of them want more time", he said of Republican lawmakers.

"There isn't anything in this bill that would lower premiums", Heller said.
