West Indies beat India in record T20 nail-biter

Promising batsman Lokesh Rahul's 110 not out went in vain as West Indies managed to sneak past India by one run in the nail-biting first T20 worldwide at the Central Broward Regional Park Stadium Turf Ground here on Saturday.

Playing in his fourth T20I, Rahul reached to his 100 in 46 balls, the joint second fastest in T20 Internationals along with South African Faf du Plessis and just one ball short of South African Richard Levi's fastest 45-ball hundred against New Zealand in 2012 in Hamilton.

With four runs needed from the last two deliveries, Dhoni squeezed an attempted yorker down the ground and collected two but off the last ball, found himself deceived by a Bravo slower delivery and squirted a simple catch to Samuels at third man.

But Lewis took on from where his opening partner left. The next over silenced the huge Indian contingent as Bravo cajoled the Test skipper into gloving an attempted pull-shot through to the keeper.

Rahul had walked in with India shaky at 48-2, chasing a massive 245 for victory. His departure made an already hard task even more daunting. Ashwin, however, was the only Indian bowler to concede less than ten runs an over, like was the case with Bravo in the second half. India were now 137 for 3 and Dhoni strode to the wicket.

The run rate during the 126-run stand between Johnson Charles and Lewis, the sixth highest for any century partnership in T20Is.

"We did most things right". By the time the 18th was completed, 24 was needed. In last few 10 matches, India just lost two matches and now they are the No. 2 rank t20 team in the world.

India were firm favourites when they started the final over needing just eight runs but Bravo, who finished with two for 37 off his four overs, showed every inch of this experience to get West Indies over the line. Russell recently struck a 44-ball 100 packed with 11 sixes and played a crucial role, along with Gayle, in taking Jamaica Tallawahs to their second CPL title. Before he got going, it was Charles, playing in his 30th T20I, who began like a rocket. Mohammad Shami picked a wicket as well.

American boxer Shields wears two golds around her neck
Shields, 21, who grew up in Flint, Mich., also beat Fontijin back in May to win her second consecutive world championship. First gold for US boxers in Rio, first medal for the U.S.in marathon since 2004 and an epic volleyball comeback.

Instead we had the cool head of Dhoni. Lewis soon joined the fun, but Charles remained the main protagonist, his foot planted firmly on the accelerator. He had reason to just hope: 20 of the 39 previous overs had been taken for at least a boundary in the first two balls. Lewis had now fully hit his stride and greeted Ravindra Jadeja's two first deliveries with mighty hits for six to continue the onslaught.

Kohli followed Rahane after edging a rising Bravo ball down the leg side to the keeper. Still, his 79 from 33 deliveries was well made. They both took the attack back to the West Indies camp with Rohit leading from the front. The left-hander slammed Stuart Binny for five sixes in one over and eventually went on to score a century.

Rohit reached to his 50 as he hoisted Kieron Pollard for a six in the 10th over after facing 22 balls as India were 116 for 2 at the halfway stage.

"West Indies have always been a tough side".

A crowd of 15,000 is expected in Florida over each of the two days including vast numbers of expatriates.

Brathwaite's outfit includes the likes of flamboyant opener Chris Gayle, allrounder AndrÈ Russell, and spinner Sunil Narine.

Rohit Sharma's strong knock of 62: Following the brutal innings from the West Indies, it was the turn of the Indian batsmen to fire, and starting with the Indian innings, it was India's "Hitman" Rohit Sharma, who played a strong innings of 62, that allowed India to fightback, and make sure that they do not allow West Indies to win the match easy.
