Barkley's promotion signals Cutler is not likely to play and might not travel to Dallas for Sunday night's game against the Cowboys, where the 0-2 Bears will start journeyman Brian Hoyer. Both teams struggled with injuries to key players throughout the season and both teams also finished last in their division.

Jay Cutler (sprained thumb) is listed as day-to-day on the team's injury report, but the Bears on Thursday that they've elevated QB Matt Barkley from the practice squad to the active roster.

COWBOYS Cole Beasley (5-75 receiving in Week 2) appears to have passed by Terrance Williams as team's No. 2 WR with 13-140 receiving in first 2 games. It was his first action as a Bear since the preseason finale, and he said he can benefit from that time.
