Mourinho vows to 'protect' players from media criticism

"I love red wine, and if he offers I will go and drink it with him", the Leicester manager said.

"We were punished by the fact that we played well for moments and for periods and not for the whole of the game".

"I can't protect my players from you [the media], it is a feeling of frustration". Even the teams that beat us recently had a really tough game against us; it was very difficult for Man City to beat Man United; it was very difficult for Feyenoord to beat Man United and it was very difficult for Watford to beat Man United.

"But the reality is I look at them and they are very good, they are very good".

"The only thing that upsets me a little bit is the kind of criticism to my players because my players are my players. So why not also feed the Einsteins?"

"It's a learning process". "The critique is part of the process, the critique helps people to learn how to cope with critics". I know that the world is full of Einsteins, I know that they tried to delete 16 years of my career, they tried to delete an unbelievable history of Manchester United Football Club and to focus on a bad week with three bad results.

The former Everton striker also said that he is relishing the opportunity to avenge the defeat suffered in the hands of Manchester City in the EFL Cup fourth round match which will be played in Old Trafford. Jose Mourinho: 'Wayne Rooney affected by England criticism'
He admitted that he form of his captain Wayne Rooney - who has described criticism of himself as " rubbish " - had been patchy. We like to say a very good start to the season was better than we could expect, we were guilty to raise expectations of people.

On the pitch, however, the tables were turned dramatically last season, when Ranieri led Leicester to the Premier League title and oversaw the 2-1 victory against Chelsea in December that culminated in Mourinho being sacked the following day.

"Not many teams during the Premier League history could do that". One of the teams was of course Man United.

The England global signed a fresh five-year deal last month as the Foxes tied their stars down following last season's stunning Premier League triumph. "But I still think, a big boy like he is, he has to face it in a strong way". It is very easy to analyse and understand.

Mourinho did not rule out Luke Shaw (groin) or Henrikh Mkhitaryan (thigh) for the Leicester game when asked about expected absentees through injury.

United captain Wayne Rooney has faced fierce criticism after a string of poor performances in recent weeks but Mourinho said the forward should not be singled out from the rest of the squad.

"If you remember my words, I said something like I am not playing defensively with my words because I know that it is hard".
