Protests expected around Charlotte Panthers game

After days of protest, Charlotte police finally released their footage of Keith Lamont Scott being shot and killed.

The Asheville Citizen-Times reports (http://avlne.ws/2d7B5p3) that Pence addressed the shooting death of Keith Lamont Scott when he spoke Saturday to a Christian coalition of about 200 members of the House School Legal Defense Association in Black Mountain.

Scott's family claimed that he did not have a weapon, and was unfairly targeted by law enforcement. He also addressed the protests that have occurred each night since the September 20 shooting, saying "no one has the right to engage in acts of violence against property of persons" in the U.S.

Charlotte is the latest USA city to be shaken by protests and recriminations over the death of a black man at the hands of police, a list that includes Baltimore, Milwaukee, Chicago, New York and Ferguson, Missouri.

This new shows a different angle from the ones released by Charlotte police and local/state authorities and clearly showe Scott walking backwards with his hands at his sides before his death.

Two plainclothes officers were sitting inside of their unmarked police vehicle preparing to serve an arrest warrant in the parking lot of The Village at College Downs, when a white SUV pulled in and parked beside of them. Burch says she thinks officers should have used stun guns or shot Scott in a leg rather than killing him.

On Sunday, protesters led by a man with a bullhorn across the street from Bank of America Stadium were surrounded by at least two dozen police officers on bicycles.

When the national anthem was played, the protesters all dropped to one knee as many NFL players have been doing for weeks to call more attention to issues including police shootings. Putney then added that at this point, the Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department will not be charging any officer in the shooting. As their numbers swelled, police officers on bicycles kept the protesters out of the path of arriving fans.

Democratic presidential candidate Hillary Clinton is planning to be back in North Carolina ahead of her rescheduled trip to Charlotte.

Marchers protest the police shooting of Keith Scott in Charlotte.

About 50 Charlotte-Mecklenburg police officers dressed in riot gear received an ovation from fans waiting to get into Bank of America Stadium for Sunday's National Football League game.

Angela Lansbury revives 'Beauty and the Beast' role in NY
When Beauty and the Beast was released, it became an instant classic not only among children, but film critics, too. In the end, it doesn't matter how good the remake is, as we will always have the original and its fantastic music.

After the dashboard camera and police body-cam videos were released, a fifth day of protests against Scott's fatal shooting was largely peaceful.

Meanwhile, North Carolina's State Bureau of Investigation has taken over the investigation into the shooting by officer Brentley Vinson, who is black and was not wearing a body cam, despite police policy requiring body cams. Officers in full gear were stationed about every 50 feet along the stadium's east perimeter. Before the police released the videos in their possession, Scott's wife, Rakeyia Scott, shared her cell phone footage of her husband's death, where she can be heard shouting: "Don't shoot him!"

The body camera footage does not show the moment shots are fired and Mr Scott is next seen on the ground. Forty-four people were arrested after Wednesday's protests, and one protester who was shot died at a hospital Thursday.

"We want to let people know that there's more going on on a Sunday than a Panthers game", said organizer Ashley Williams of Charlotte's Trans Queer People of Color Collective.

The officers observed the driver, later identified as Mr. Keith Lamont Scott, rolling what they believed to be a marijuana "blunt". Police Chief Kerr Putney said that Scott was "absolutely in possession of a handgun".

Police also released photos of a handgun from the scene, saying it was loaded and contained Mr Scott's DNA and fingerprints.

"Due to the combination of illegal drugs and the gun Mr. Scott had in his possession, officers chose to take enforcement action for public safety concerns", police said.

The whole situation came about, according to Putney, when officers were conducting surveillance related to a warrant they meant to serve on someone else, but their attention was drawn to Scott.

Putney said that Scott was "absolutely in possession of a handgun", and that officers also saw marijuana in his auto — prompting them to act.

"Unfortunately, we are left with far more questions than we have answers", said Ray Dotch, the brother of Scott's wife.

Bamberg said that, even with the official footage that Chief Putney allowed him and Scott's family to view, it was impossible to know whether Scott was brandishing a firearm, as police allege.
