Group Asks Illinois High Court For Redistricting Hearing

Independent Maps Chairman Dennis FitzSimons said the amendment is in line with the state's Constitution.

The bipartisan Independent Map Amendment group had collected nearly 600,000 IL voter signatures for its second consecutive attempt at letting voters decide whether they wanted an independent commission empowered to draw Illinois' statehouse boundaries instead of political party leaders. "The delegates (of the 1970 Constitutional Convention) agreed on redistricting as a critical area that citizens should have the ability to change", FitzSimons said.

Some minority leaders in Chicago hailed the Supreme Court decision to not allow an independent commission to re-draw legislative district maps because the minority leaders say that re-drawing the maps will hurt their representation in Springfield.

According to a press release, "Quinn plans to reach out to the Independent Map organizers" about his amendment language.

Trump son defends not releasing tax returns
The New York developer has said he won't release his returns while he is under audit. Trump has thus far not released his tax returns because he is under IRS audit.

"We're only a few days from the Illinois Supreme Court's 4-3 decision, and I think every practitioner needs to study the opinion a few more days before necessarily deciding which way to go on any follow-up proposal", Szala said, expressing his opinion and not that of the university.

The latest result of Madigan's maps will be seen by voters in the November 8 election, where in election after legislative election across the state, there are no competitive races.

Pat Quinn is proposing what he says is a "fair and constitutional" redistricting reform plan.

They accuse House Speaker Michael Madigan, who also chairs the state Democratic Party, of orchestrating the effort to block the Independent Maps amendment. A map would need seven votes from the commission for approval.
